Chapter 1003: You’re Kicking Me Out Too
Hayley Cole carried the cake box, eagerly running to James Reed’s door: "James, James, I ate some really delicious cake with your mother today. I brought some back for you to try."Hayley had been staying here for over half a month, almost a month now. Charlotte Reed and Ethan treated her very well. She felt more comfortable and at ease here than at her own home.
Not to mention she could see the person she liked every day. She felt like her life over the past twenty-something years was wasted; those days were hell, now it’s heaven.
She didn’t think of herself as an outsider at all. Without waiting for James to answer, she pushed the door open and walked in, holding up the cake, taking a deep sniff, and made a deeply enchanted expression: "James, it’s really tasty."
James nodded with a smile and then took it: "Thank you, sorry to trouble you again."
"Oh, James, why are you still being so polite with me?" Hayley cheerfully looked at James, "James, the restaurant your mom and I went to today was especially delicious. When you have time, let’s go together. Bring your dad, he hasn’t been there, and your mom said he would like it too."
"Hayley, there’s something I’d like to talk to you about." James placed the cake on the table beside him and looked seriously at Hayley.
"Alright, what do you want to say? Go ahead." Hayley smiled so brightly, living here her mood was always great, she could even wake up smiling.
Unfortunately, what James said next completely shattered Hayley’s good mood: "Hayley, shouldn’t you be going home?"
The smile on Hayley’s face froze. She stared at James in disbelief and asked, "James, are you trying to make me leave?"
"It’s not that." James explained, "Hayley, you’ve been away from home for so long now. Your parents must be worried about you. You should go back to visit and reassure them!"
"They wouldn’t worry about me!" Hayley covered her ears, refusing to listen to James, "They drove me away, and now you want to drive me away too. Fine, I’ll leave now!"
Finished speaking, Hayley turned and ran out.
"Hayley!" James was startled and hurriedly chased after her.
But it was a step too late. The door was slammed shut right in front of James.
"Hayley, open the door!" James pounded on the door forcefully, shouting.
Inside the room, there were banging sounds, unclear what Hayley was doing.
Worried, James kept knocking on the door, which brought Charlotte Reed and Ethan over.
"What’s going on?" Ethan asked puzzled, "Did you and Hayley have a fight?"
"No, I just..." James’ words were cut off halfway as the door was flung open. Hayley was already standing in front of the three of them.
"Hayley, what are you doing?" Charlotte instantly noticed the small luggage bag in Hayley’s hand and exclaimed.
"Auntie, James doesn’t want me here, he wants me gone. So I’m leaving, to not bother him." Hayley fiercely wiped her eyes and glared resentfully at James.
"Drive you away?" Charlotte exclaimed, realized the situation, and slapped James on the arm, "You silly boy, Hayley is my goddaughter. What right do you have to drive her away?"
"Mom, I didn’t." James said, feeling wronged.
"You still argue!" Charlotte wouldn’t listen to James’s defense and slapped him on the arm again.
