Chapter 1299: Turning Against Each Other and Becoming Enemies
Zhao Zhongtian and Hei Pi, the two masterminds, slipped into Zhao Feipeng’s residence under the cover of night.Zhao Feipeng looked at Zhao Zhongtian and Hei Pi standing before him, his eyes filled with intense anger, his face red with rage, wanting to curse out loud, but unfortunately, his mouth was stuffed, and he couldn’t utter a word.
Madam Zhao was tied up in the bedroom, while Zhao Feipeng was in the living room, secured to a chair with ropes.
This was what Zhao Zhongtian had specifically instructed Dog Brother and the others to do before he came.
Separating Zhao Feipeng from Madam Zhao was ideal, as Zhao Zhongtian had no desire to face the hostile gaze of Madam Zhao; dealing with Zhao Feipeng alone was enough without needing to endure unnecessary disdain and curses.
Dog Brother and his men stood respectfully to the side, awaiting orders from Zhao Zhongtian and Hei Pi.
"You three did very well. I won’t forget your efforts, nor will I be stingy with rewards," said Zhao Zhongtian, looking at the trio with great appreciation.
"Thank you, boss. It’s all thanks to your and Brother’s meticulous planning; we’re just running errands," Dog Brother and his men replied somewhat reservedly. In front of Zhao Zhongtian and Hei Pi, they dared not act presumptuously, only standing obediently in their assigned roles.
Truth be told, everything relied on the arrangements of Zhao Zhongtian and Hei Pi; their roles were truly insignificant.
Receiving generous rewards is what truly mattered, and Dog Brother and his men were naturally pleased to accept this grace.
Zhao Zhongtian sat in front of Zhao Feipeng, smugly saying, "Big Brother, stop struggling. Recognizing reality and understanding your situation are more important than anything else. The greatest fear is failing to discern the balance of power."
Zhao Feipeng struggled angrily in the chair, wanting to curse but unable to, exhausting himself, and ultimately resigning to sit motionlessly, only his furious gaze stayed fixed on Zhao Zhongtian.
Zhao Zhongtian waved his hand, and Hei Pi stepped forward to remove the towel stuffed in Zhao Feipeng’s mouth.
"You shameless scoundrel, how could you do this? How could you? Do you know what you’re doing? I never thought, never imagined, you could be like this?" Zhao Feipeng roared in anger. Suspecting was one thing, but believing Ye Fan’s judgment and firmly believing Zhao Zhongtian to be the mastermind was another. Now, Zhao Zhongtian had actually acted against him, laying the facts bare, destroying any illusions, forcing him to accept this harsh reality.
"Curse all you want, just curse to your heart’s content. I promise not to argue back. What’s the point of exchanging words with a prisoner?" Zhao Zhongtian shrugged, dismissing Zhao Feipeng’s insults with disdain.
Zhao Feipeng stopped cursing, but the anger and agitation within him burned fiercely, as if it would consume him.
After a moment to compose himself, he asked, "Why are you doing this?"
"Why? Haha!" Zhao Zhongtian chuckled mockingly, "You mean kidnapping you? Why else, if not for the Zhao Family’s inheritance? I’m confident in my ability and strength to take on the responsibility of being the Patriarch of the Zhao Family."
"I’m not asking about you kidnapping me. I mean, why did you conspire against Zhao Hai? He was your nephew, a child you watched grow up. Why kidnap Xixi? And why attack Jian Tao so aggressively?" Zhao Feipeng, deeply saddened, poured out all the questions in his heart, no longer wanting to hide, but asking for a reason.
"So you know, you know everything." Zhao Zhongtian’s eyes flashed, seeming a bit incredulous, and he said urgently, "How could you know? It’s impossible for you to know everything."
"With everything at this point, how could I not figure this out? Do you think I’m a fool?" Zhao Feipeng shouted.
"True, if you hadn’t figured it out by now, that would be strange." Zhao Zhongtian said indifferently, "There’s nothing left to hide at this point. Yes, it was all me. It was I who conspired against Zhao Hai, it was I who attempted to kidnap Xixi, and it was I who attacked Jian Tao. And now, it’s me threatening you, trying to take the Zhao Family’s wealth. It’s all me. What can you do about it?"
"How have you become so inhuman? What happened to your conscience? Did a dog eat it?" Zhao Feipeng questioned.
"Conscience? Haha, you’re talking to me about conscience," Zhao Zhongtian replied loudly, "How much is a conscience worth?"
"You’ve gone mad. You’re terminally ill," Zhao Feipeng said tearfully, "How could you bear to harm Zhao Hai? How could you do this?"
"There’s nothing I can’t give up. You need to see things more openly, and stop fixating on the dead. Why cling to that?" Zhao Zhongtian sneered, his eyes filled with cold malice.
"You heartless bastard, how could you do this?" Zhao Feipeng asked in utter bewilderment, "Most of the Zhao Family’s business has been managed by me, yet look at how much you’ve squandered, how much of the family’s wealth you’ve ruined. You claim you have the ability to manage the family assets, but you’re merely a wastrel, squandering everything. What ability do you have? Even if you’re a scoundrel and wastrel, I never intended to hog all of the Zhao Family businesses. Have you forgotten how many benefits I’ve given you?"
"Yes, you did give me many benefits, but wasn’t it out of pity? In business circles, who doesn’t mock me? I’m nothing but a joke, a useless person. So what if I enjoy trading stocks or gambling a bit? What’s the big deal? The Zhao Family’s wealth is vast; how much could I possibly squander? Why can’t I indulge a little?" Zhao Zhongtian stubbornly replied, "Yes, you gave me benefits and earned a good reputation, but it only made mine worse, making me even more of a laughingstock. Many times, under the guise of doing good for me, you withheld money to pay my gambling debts, subjecting me to all sorts of difficulties. Is this really good for me?"
"I did it to teach you a lesson so you would turn back and stop doing things that damaged the family’s reputation. Wouldn’t it be better if you reformed? It wouldn’t have come to this," Zhao Feipeng said bitterly, "You can’t appreciate other people’s good intentions. Instead, you act on your own whims, refusing to see your mistakes. Isn’t that laughable?"
"I’m not wrong. I couldn’t be wrong. Laugh at me? Haha, once I become the master of the Zhao Family, let’s see who dares to laugh at me. Those who mocked me, I’ll show them my power. I’ll prove myself by using a simple and brutal way to instill fear in them, showing all those without limits how powerful I am," Zhao Zhongtian said with a fierce glare.
