Chapter 204 I understand, Master
Chapter 204 I understand, Master
The master slowly turned one of the pages, his eyes becoming more serious.
"Sure enough, it's this." He murmured to himself in a low voice, with a hint of imperceptible surprise in his tone, but that surprise was quickly suppressed and turned into calm thinking.
Su Ming frowned slightly. Although he trusted his master, the silence made him feel uneasy. He couldn't help but ask, "Master, what exactly is in here?"
The master's gaze slowly shifted from the document to Su Ming. His eyes, as deep as the ocean, seemed to pierce through a person's heart, yet now held a hint of elusive emotion. Su Ming had never seen him express such an expression before, and his heart tightened.
"Do you know what you just took?" the master asked in a low voice with a power that could not be ignored.
Su Ming shook his head. He truly didn't know. All he knew along the way was that this package was extremely important, enough to be fought over by many factions, but its true significance remained unclear.
"These documents involve... an area we've never ventured into before," Master said slowly, his tone becoming increasingly complex. "They're not just about a certain person or secrets, but about a fundamental change in the entire situation."
"Fundamental change?" Su Ming's heart sank. The weight of this sentence made him realize that the situation was far more serious than he had imagined. The documents in the package might involve matters beyond his comprehension, even beyond the entire intelligence network they were part of.
"These documents record some extremely secret operational plans. Those plans... could change everything." Master closed the file, his expression growing even more grim. "We can't let these things fall into the hands of anyone, not even our allies."
Countless questions flashed through Su Ming's mind. What exactly did these documents involve? Why did his master take them so seriously? More importantly, why would those who were hunting him want them at all costs?
"Master, what should we do next?" Su Ming asked in a low voice, a hint of anxiety in his tone. Although he was usually calm, now facing the unknown danger, he couldn't help but feel uneasy.
The Master was silent for a moment, his eyes deep, as if he were weighing some crucial decision. Finally, he spoke slowly, "We're going to hide these things somewhere safer. Afterward, you'll need to find the key individuals involved and uncover their whereabouts and plans."
Su Ming frowned slightly, his master's words making him feel a little confused: "Core figures? But who are these people? How do I track them down?"
The Master didn't answer directly. Instead, he pulled an old photograph from another pile of documents on the desk and handed it to Su Ming. It was a black and white photo, showing the blurry silhouettes of several people. Su Ming took the photo and examined it carefully, noting that they all seemed to be wearing some kind of badge and standing very close to each other, clearly indicating a special relationship.
"This is the only clue we have right now," the master said with a hint of caution. "These people are involved in an operation you've never heard of. They are the most secretive pawns in this game."
Su Ming stared at the blurry figures in the photo, his doubts growing deeper. The photo was clearly old, even yellowed, but the figures were still clearly visible. Who were these people? And how did they relate to these documents?
"You must remember that you cannot trust anyone, including those you think are your allies." The master's voice was low and firm, as if it sounded a wake-up call in Su Ming's heart.
Su Ming's heartbeat quickened as he began to realize that the next mission would not be just a simple pursuit or investigation, but would involve a more complex conspiracy and danger. He needed to remain vigilant at all times; any wrong decision could lead him into an abyss of no return.
"I understand, Master." Su Ming nodded, and his inner determination gradually prevailed. Although the situation before him was complicated and unpredictable, he would never back down.
The master glanced at him, his eyes revealing a hint of relief and a complex mix of emotions. He seemed to have never revealed his true feelings to anyone, and Su Ming was the only one close to his heart. Although this master-disciple relationship was not fraught with words, it had already established an unspoken understanding between life and death.
"You must walk the rest of the way alone," the master said in a deep voice, his gaze becoming even more resolute. "I will buy you time, but from now on, every step you take is crucial."
Su Ming's heart trembled slightly. He understood what this meant. His master was already making final arrangements for him, and he himself must shoulder this heavy responsibility, facing unknown enemies and a perilous situation alone.
"You will have no way out." The master's final instructions were like a heavy hammer, hitting Su Ming's heart.
Su Ming stood in the dim basement, his heart churning with turmoil. Though outwardly he appeared calm, like a still lake, the struggle within him was steadily building. His master's words seemed to echo endlessly in his mind: "From this moment on, every step you take is crucial."
Crucial? Su Ming felt a pang of resignation. For years, he had diligently followed his Master's every instruction, enduring countless missions and dangers. He believed he had already proven his worth, yet now his Master still threw the heaviest responsibility upon him, even letting him face it all alone without hesitation.
He felt a sense of imbalance in his heart, as if he had always been the silent pillar that bore the weight, always bearing all the pressure and responsibility, while his master always stood high above, controlling the direction of everything.
Su Ming's gaze shifted quietly to the documents on his desk. He knew their importance, and he also knew his master hadn't intentionally pushed him into danger. Yet, the frustration and pressure deep within him wouldn't dissipate. Every time he thought he was strong enough, reality would tell him he wasn't.
"You once told me that trust is the most important thing." Su Ming suddenly spoke, his tone carrying a hint of suppressed emotion. "But now you tell me that I can't even trust my allies, and you're even asking me to bear all this alone."
The master turned, his deep gaze seeming even sharper in the dim light. He stared at Su Ming without answering immediately, as if examining his heart, even perceiving every subtle fluctuation within it. The silence and pressure made the air stagnate.
"Trust is never absolute." After a moment, the master's deep voice finally broke the deadlock. He slowly said, "In our world, trust is only a tool for survival, not a basis for dependence."
