Chapter 262 Uninvited Guest
Chapter 262 Uninvited Guest
In the blink of an eye, a week has passed since the Black Gold Guard was established.
Each squad has begun to take shape and has been assigned to various locations on the island by Mo Ming to carry out missions.
The sky was a pale, fish-belly white in the early morning, with clouds swirling around the edge of the island, like a thin veil shrouding the floating world.
Sixth Division members Luo Fei and Xu Erniang stood at the sentry post on the edge of the sky island, their bright yellow warning flags fluttering in the wind, the vast expanse of sky filled only with a tranquil sea of clouds. Suddenly, a whooshing sound came from afar.
Xu Erniang immediately became alert, tugged at the corner of her cloak, her eyes darkened, and she pointed to the approaching figure in the sky: "Luo Fei! Over there, something is getting closer."
Luo Fei quickly turned around, squinted in the direction she pointed, and looked solemnly: "There is...someone. Is that a bird?" He subconsciously touched the long sword at his waist, gripped it tightly, and his eyes became more cautious.
As the bird drew closer, its silhouette gradually emerged from the mist—the bird was enormous, with a very wide wingspan, its feathers gleaming faintly and sharp as blades. On its back sat a person. The person's face was obscured, and they wore a dark cloak, the hem of which fluttered in the wind.
"Could they be enemies? Or refugees? I heard the leader mention a while ago that the flood destroyed many survivors' shelters, turning them into homeless refugees."
"Xu Erniang said in a low voice, her teeth slightly clenched. Her brows furrowed completely, and her fingers tapped on the weapon at her waist, as if considering whether she should make a defensive move first."
"Don't rush, let's find out his purpose first." Luo Fei gestured to Xu Erniang to calm down, but a cold wariness was already showing in his eyes. He stood there with his legs apart, his restrained yet sharp aura like an arrow drawn taut—ready to strike at any moment.
Soon, the bird approached and slowly landed on the shallow, flat rocky slope at the edge of the island. Its powerful talons gently hooked onto the ground, bringing it to a steady stop. The person on the bird's back did not immediately disembark but instead raised their head, their gaze peering out from under the brim of their hat, scrutinizing the two people before them with a half-smile.
"Who are you?" Luo Fei took a half step forward, his tone low and his vigilance palpable.
"This is the boundary of Sky Island. Please state your purpose!" His right hand was already subtly close to the hilt of the knife at his waist, and his broad shoulders were slightly leaning forward, as if he were ready to deal with any unexpected situation at any time.
Xu Erniang stood to the side, her sharp eyes fixed on the person on the bird's back like a hawk's, so vigilant that she could sense even the slightest unusual airflow. She almost silently increased the distance between them, her hands hanging down, ready to strike at any moment. She couldn't help but mutter to Luo Fei in a low voice, "He's got some nerve."
The other party did not rush to respond, but slowly jumped down from the bird's back—the movement was clean and neat, and the footsteps made almost no sound when they landed.
His age was hard to discern, but his sharply defined jawline hinted at a cold demeanor. He gently lifted his cloak, revealing a short sword hidden beneath, but did not draw it, simply standing there calmly.
"Don't be nervous, I'm just passing by." He spoke, his voice low and hoarse, carrying a cold indifference and a hint of disdain, as if he found the wariness shown by the two men somewhat amusing. "Do I look like an enemy to you?"
Luo Fei's eyes flickered, but he wasn't swayed by this light probing. Instead, he continued to stare at the other party: "This area is not an ordinary 'path.' If you're just passing by by chance, please leave quickly. This island... has an owner!"
The man chuckled softly, said nothing, but raised his hand and gently patted the huge bird beside him, displaying an air of effortless composure.
Xu Erniang finally couldn't hold back any longer. Her lips twitched, and she raised her voice slightly: "Say it again, either state your purpose or leave immediately."
The man raised his head, a slight mockery in his eyes: "If I insist on entering your island, what can you do about it?" He pointed at Xu Erniang with his finger, as if to remind her, or perhaps to make a definitive statement.
Xu Erniang's face instantly turned ugly, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the baton. She was about to step forward and question him when Luo Fei stopped her with a low shout: "Stop!"
"You want to force your way in?" Luo Fei coldly interrupted the other party's taunts. "Second Madam!" He turned to look at Xu Erniang.
Although Xu Erniang was furious, she understood Luo Fei's meaning. The leader's pet was not in this area for the time being. With one person and one beast, it would be difficult for the two of them to fight against him. The best they could do now was to stall him and then go and inform the leader.
She gritted her teeth and nodded. "I'll go inform the leader. You stay here and keep an eye on him." She turned decisively, preparing to leave.
"Wait! Did I say you could leave?" In his opinion, such a large island with only two people of Deep Blue level strength patrolling it meant that it was probably just a bunch of third-rate guys who happened to discover the island and settled here.
Now that his shelter has been swallowed by the flood, he can use this opportunity to recuperate, grow stronger, and create new glories.
Sun Erniang stopped and looked at him coldly. "What do you mean by this?"
Luo Fei, who was standing to the side, also drew his weapon from his waist.
The wind at the cliff edge grew colder, and Xu Erniang, Luo Fei, and the stranger faced each other from a distance. The atmosphere between the two sides was completely frozen, tense and ready to fight.
Luo Fei didn't say much, just stood there like a steady rock, his gaze fixed on the stranger. Even the slightest flapping of a bird's wings caught his eye instantly, without the slightest relaxation.
The man, however, maintained a half-smile, his hands hanging limply at his sides, motionless, seemingly unconcerned about the stalemate. Yet, his faint smile betrayed a hint of waning patience, and the next second…
He moved!
The short sword was drawn, flashing with a cold light, aimed straight at Luo Fei's throat. His sword strike was as fast as lightning, the chill emanating from it seeming to tear through the surrounding air.
Luo Fei, who was on high alert, was prepared and instantly drew his sword to block.
"when!"
Sparks flew as the two forces collided violently, sending dust flying from the ground beneath Luo Fei's feet.
"Tsk, you've got some skills."
The stranger's eyes lit up slightly, but his short sword did not stop. He turned the blade and quickly slashed down with an aura that completely overwhelmed the two of them.
"Second mother!"
Luo Fei gave a low shout, swinging his longsword back to avoid the approaching blade, while simultaneously turning to the side to create space.
"coming!"
Xu Erniang's eyes flashed with a sharp light. She pushed off with her feet, using the momentum to spin and leap into the air. The baton in her hand tore through the air, and she swung it down fiercely towards the stranger's neck. Swift as an eagle, the baton flashed, its power overwhelming.
However, the stranger seemed to have anticipated this, as the shadow of the stick she was about to strike was precisely blocked by the opponent's short sword with a raised hand. The moment the iron baton collided with the short sword, sparks flew, followed by a loud bang, and Xu Erniang's arm was so shocked that she staggered back several steps.
"That's all?"
