Chapter 59 Wang Xiu (2)
Chapter 59 Wang Xiu (2)
The next day, Wang Xiu packed her bags and went to her son's house. Before leaving, she explained the situation to her husband.
"I might be gone for about a month, so don't rush to do any chores. Just feed the chickens and ducks at home."
“Okay, I understand. Go ahead,” his wife replied, smoking a cigarette.
Wang Xiu glanced at it and left satisfied. She took a ride, changing cars several times along the way, before finally arriving at her son's apartment building.
Then he was picked up by his son who had returned home.
Xia Cong took most of the things from his mother's hands and led her forward.
"Mom, you don't need to bring so much stuff. The main reason I came here is to take care of Zhenzhen and the two children. I'm busy with work and don't have time to pick you up. It's such a hassle for you to bring so much stuff on the way."
"Oh, it's okay. These things aren't heavy. I can carry them by myself."
Wang Xiu happily returned home with her son.
As soon as the door opened, the eldest grandson bounced over, "Dad, Grandma!"
"Oh, Chenchen is such a good girl. Where are Mommy and her little sister?"
“Mom and my sister are sleeping in the bedroom,” Chenchen replied obediently.
"Oh, then we'll have to keep our voices down so we don't disturb your mom's sleep."
As she spoke, Wang Xiu lowered her voice.
But as soon as the door opened, Jia Zhenzhen heard a sound and called out from inside, "Husband, is Mom here?"
"Oh, Zhenzhen, I'm here."
Wang Xiu went in and sat on the edge of the bed in the bedroom, chatting with her daughter-in-law.
"Mom, thank you so much for this. We're under a lot of financial pressure right now, and we can't afford to hire a postpartum nanny."
“What’s the big deal? Why waste the money? If it’s inconvenient at home, you should ask your dad and me to come and take care of you.”
Seeing that his mother and wife were having a harmonious conversation, Xia Cong went to put away the dishes his mother had brought.
However, there were quite a lot of different kinds of vegetables, and he didn't know where to put some of them, so he asked directly, "Mom, where do you put these dried vegetables and these fresh vegetables?"
"Oh, you can leave those vegetables there, I'll put them away." Wang Xiu came out of the bedroom when she heard the noise.
She stepped forward to gather the vegetables she had taken out. "These are dried mushrooms and dried vegetables that I dried. They'll make a nice chicken stew with mushrooms, along with the old hen I brought from home. We can also make chicken soup."
"This is the new yellow millet we harvested this year. I heard it's quite delicious when used to make porridge."
"These are the vegetables I bought in the village. They're quite good. Look, they're still fresh today. I'll cook them for dinner tonight."
Wang Xiu introduced each item one by one, taking them out of her pocket and putting them away neatly.
The things that Xia Cong found completely confusing were arranged very neatly and reasonably by his mother.
Seeing this, Xia Cong stopped interfering and patted her son's head. "Then Mom, you stay home and take care of Zhenzhen. I have something to do this afternoon, so I'll go back first. Chenchen, be good and don't cause trouble for Grandma and Mom."
"Okay, go ahead and take your time. I'll keep an eye on things at home."
"Okay, by the way, if you can cook dinner first, then eat. I might get back a little late."
"Don't worry about that, just go to work."
Wang Xiu waved her hand, telling him to go and take care of his work first, and that she could look after things here.
She first cleaned the house, then tidied the bed, and checked on the child. Finding that her granddaughter was sleeping peacefully, she didn't need to worry about her anymore.
After finishing her work, she checked the time and it was almost 5 o'clock. Her daughter-in-law and granddaughter were already asleep, and her grandson was watching cartoons, so she could go and cook.
Wang Xiu closed the kitchen door. She had already killed the chicken, so now she just needed to make chicken soup. She also looked at the vegetables she had brought from home.
I cooked some millet porridge, used the chives to make chive and egg pancakes, and stir-fried the greens. I just wanted to make it as light as possible.
After a flurry of activity, once the meal was ready, she first served her daughter-in-law's food and set it aside. Then she placed the dishes on the table and covered them with a lid, so her son could eat when he returned.
As she opened the kitchen door and carried the dishes out, the aroma wafted out powerfully.
Chenchen smelled the aroma and ran over eagerly, her eyes shining as she looked at the dishes in front of her.
"Grandma, it smells so good! This dish looks delicious!"
Wang Xiu patted Chenchen's head and said, "Chenchen, be good. We'll eat together when Daddy comes back."
Chenchen stared at the food in front of her and swallowed several times. Finally, remembering that her father had told her to be obedient before he left, she could only nod reluctantly.
"Okay, Grandma, I'm going back to watch cartoons."
However, this time he wasn't as focused on the cartoon as before, and his eyes kept glancing at the table.
Wang Xiu found the commotion somewhat amusing, but she did indeed marvel at how delicious the dish smelled; she had just tasted it to test its flavor and it was indeed excellent.
If she hadn't wanted to wait for her family to come home so they could eat together, she would have eaten too.
Even Jia Zhenzhen in the bedroom was awakened by the enticing fragrance.
She called out from inside, "Mom, have you finished cooking?"
Hearing the noise, Wang Xiu quickly went inside. "Yes, Zhenzhen, I just finished cooking and left it there. I was planning to wait for Xiao Cong to come back and eat. You can eat first, and I'll bring the food in for you."
"Mom, no need. I'm not hungry right now, and I can wait a little longer."
The main reason was that she was afraid Chenchen would see her eating and then start asking for food too.
This child has this bad habit: he has to taste whatever she eats, and he won't touch it when she doesn't eat.
If you don't give it to them, they'll cry and make a scene. To save yourself the trouble, let's just wait and eat together.
It has to be said that her idea was correct this time, because Chenchen thought that the dishes his grandma made today were especially delicious, and if his mother ate first, he would definitely want to eat them too.
Wang Xiu waited patiently, chatting with her daughter-in-law in the room.
After chatting for about ten minutes, Xia Cong pushed open the door and came back.
"Mom, Zhenzhen, I'm back. You haven't eaten yet. I told you not to wait for me."
"You can't say that. It's not easy for me to get a meal, so everyone has to eat together. Besides, it's not late now."
Wang Xiu first brought the food inside to her daughter-in-law, telling her to eat first.
Then we went out, lifted the lid, and served the rice for everyone to eat.
She called to her grandson, "Come on, Chenchen, wash your hands and eat."
"Wow, that's great! Time to eat!" Chenchen went to the bathroom to wash her hands and came back very happily.
Xia Cong was a little surprised, "You're so happy today."
He was still somewhat joking at the moment, but he fell silent after putting the food in his mouth.
Jia Zhenzhen in the bedroom was the same. She hadn't had a good appetite lately because everyone said that she needed to nourish herself after giving birth, so they were giving her lots of meat, fish, and various nutritional supplements.
However, she did not have a good appetite. She had originally thought that she should at least drink the chicken soup so as not to disappoint her mother-in-law's good intentions.
But to her surprise, those simple vegetable dishes amazed her.
Chenchen exclaimed with delight several times, "Wow, so delicious! Delicious vegetables! Grandma, I want to eat vegetables!"
"Okay, okay," Wang Xiu said happily, placing the food into her grandson's bowl.
She was overjoyed. Luckily, she had bought Xia Shiyu's groceries before leaving. They were so delicious that she was overjoyed to see her son's family drooling over them.
