Chapter 21 Spectral Energy
Chapter 21 Spectral Energy
After the interrogation room door closed, Jiang Zhengge leaned against the corridor and lit a cigarette for himself.
As he walked out the door, Louis immediately went up to him:
"Section Chief, how's it going?"
"This kid hasn't had any professional training, but he's got potential," Jiang Zhengge said, "How's the background check?"
"A clean resume, just like a college graduate looking for a job," Louis said, looking at the tablet in his hand. "This is unheard of... an ordinary person awakened 'psychic awareness' and then killed a demigod..."
"Don't underestimate the power of the people," Jiang Zhengge chuckled. "With so many people in Yudu, it's normal for one or two extraordinary individuals to emerge occasionally. So, it's only a matter of time before someone like Qingtian, who disregards human life, suffers retribution."
“That’s true,” Louis said, scratching his head. “After all, Zhanyi was someone you picked up from outside, and she’s quite skilled now.”
"I think we have to protect this kid too," Jiang Zhengge said. "He's ruthless. Most people would be dumbfounded in this situation, but he managed to fight his way out."
"Should we ask the chief?" Louis said.
"Of course, but before that..."
Jiang Zhengge extended his hand towards Louis:
"Have the results of his psionic spectrum analysis been released yet?"
"This is what I urgently wanted to report to you."
Louis took a deep breath and handed the tablet to Jiang Zhengge.
Jiang Zhengge took the tablet and looked at the spectral detection results on it:
"unknown?"
Upon seeing this result, Jiang Zhengge's pupils contracted slightly.
This time, he was genuinely surprised.
“We couldn’t find the same result in the database,” Louis sighed softly. “In fact, his warp shadow is very faint, and if he hadn’t actually demonstrated power, I would have thought he didn’t have any supernatural characteristics at all.”
"He projected my sidearm right in front of me," Jiang Zhengge murmured softly, "and... he caught Qingtian's fist..."
Suddenly, Jiang Zhengge felt that things had become troublesome again.
Neither the cloak of the cloak could predict him, nor could the psychic spectrum match him...
This guy doesn't look like an "ordinary person" at all.
Jiang Zhengge recalled the first time he met this kid. At that time, he was like a lamb caught in a storm, running around aimlessly in the rain.
It's normal for this kid to be on guard; if he hadn't awakened his spiritual awareness, he might not even be alive now.
"....."
As Jiang Zhengge was pondering, a clerk in an office lady uniform jogged over and stood slightly out of breath in front of him.
"Section Chief Jiang, the director wants to see you. He says we can't delay any longer; his phone has been ringing off the hook with calls from those bastards at the foundation."
"Okay, let's go."
Jiang Zhengge glanced at Louis, gave him a wink, and then left with the clerk.
He returned to the lobby, waited for the elevator for three minutes under the painting "Mirage City," and then rode all the way to the top floor.
"..."
As soon as Jiang Zhengge pushed open the door to the director's office, his gaze immediately locked onto the figure standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling glass.
"I'm also checking on the progress down there, and I'll let you know as soon as I have any news."
"Rest assured, Ms. J, the Bureau of Investigation and the Foundation remain partners."
The pretty woman put down the phone, turned around, and half of her face was covered by her dark green curly hair.
She was also wearing a uniform skirt, but with a black coat over it and a silver badge pinned to her chest.
"Jiang Zhengge, is that boy in your hands?" The bureau chief's voice was cold.
"What boy? There are no boys."
Jiang Zhengge walked to the desk, sat down, and crossed his legs.
He poured himself a cup of coffee as if he were at home, and looked at the director with a smile.
"Hua Molan, unable to withstand the pressure again?"
"Do you realize the extent of the mess you've made?" Director Hua Molan sat down behind her desk. "This is far from the point of any accidental conflict, is it?"
"We definitely didn't fire first," Jiang Zhengge shrugged.
Hua Molan sighed softly. She grabbed Jiang Zhengge's coffee, which he hadn't had time to drink yet, and took a small sip.
"To make a long story short, Ms. J has somehow found out that the assassin is in our hands and is now demanding that he be taken away."
"He's dead," Jiang Zhengge poured himself another cup of coffee. "He didn't even leave a body behind. He perished together with Qingtian. We have his ashes here. Come and get them if you want."
"Are you sure? What about the security footage?"
"Louis discovered that the surveillance footage had been destroyed during the manhunt. It's a shame, anyway, the Foundation won't be able to get the kid's facial features."
"I heard his psionic spectrum result is 'unknown'," Hua Molan narrowed her eyes slightly, "Are you sure you want to take this step? It's a risky move."
"It's confirmed, he's dead, really dead."
Jiang Zhengge smiled, then extended his hand towards Hua Molan:
"By the way, I've brought back a new clerk, a pitiful kid like Zhanyi, and I've decided to train him myself."
Seeing Jiang Zhengge's smiling face, Hua Molan sighed softly.
"You'd better really know what you're doing," she said. "Don't forget the lesson."
"I won't forget, don't worry."
Jiang Zhengge stood up, smiled at Hua Molan again, and then turned and walked towards the door.
He has made his decision: to keep Lin Shen.
......
"Why don't you tell me secretly? What kind of ability do you have?"
"...Let's talk about it later, Miss Li Zhanyi."
"What Miss Li Zhanyi? Don't be so formal, just call me Zhanyi."
"..."
In the interrogation room, looking at the inexplicably familiar Li Zhanyi, Lin Chen didn't know how to respond for a moment.
He has always been a lifelong single, spending his entire university years immersed in drawing and playing games. His interactions with girls were limited to normal classmate relationships, and he never had any further contact with them.
Li Zhanyi's overly familiar personality is really hard to handle.
"..."
Lin Chen glanced at Li Zhanyi's clothes again: she was wearing a dirty school uniform, obviously still wearing the clothes she had worn during the mission.
"Miss Zhanyi, if I may ask..." He suddenly became curious, "Are you a student... or a cosplayer?"
"I'm a student, a university student."
Li Zhanyi looked down at her dirty clothes, then looked up and smiled at Lin Chen:
"What's wrong?"
"A college student...working in the Rapid Response Division?" Lin Chen was somewhat surprised.
"Yes," Li Zhanyi nodded, "College students always need some side hustle to earn money, right? This place provides food and accommodation, five social insurances and one housing fund, commissions for missions, ten years early retirement, and you can play with guns as much as you want..."
"..."
Lin Chen's lips twitched slightly: Is this your legitimate side job?
But to be fair... there seems to be something fishy about this treatment?
Putting everything else aside, retiring ten years early? Wow...
Wait a minute, is it because this line of work is so long that you can't even retire, that they're being so generous?
Lin Chen wanted to ask more questions, but the interrogation room door was pushed open and Jiang Zhengge walked in.
"Section Chief Jiang? Is that all?"
"All done."
"Heh heh, looks like that stress monster didn't torment you too much this time."
"Um."
Jiang Zhengge sat down, interlaced his fingers, and peered at Lin Chen through his fingers.
"Kid, the Bureau of Investigation can offer you shelter, but there's a condition."
"What are the conditions?" Lin Chen asked.
"Join the Rapid Response Department to support our research."
"I accept." Lin Chen nodded.
"...?"
Jiang Zhengge paused for a moment, then subconsciously replied:
"Aren't you even going to ask about the pay?"
"Free meals and accommodation, five social insurances and one housing fund, performance bonuses," Lin Chen listed in detail, "and you can retire ten years early, plus you can play with guns as much as you want."
Upon hearing "playing with guns casually," Jiang Zhengge turned his head and looked at Li Zhanyi, who was secretly laughing.
The head of the Rapid Response Section sighed and rubbed his temples.
"You bunch of young people..."
