Chapter 143 The City of Drow
Chapter 145 The City of Drow
When it comes to cities of the drow elves, most people would probably think of the famous Menzoberranzan first.
It is located in a huge underground cavern in the Darklands, where the drow elves have carefully sculpted the original giant stalagmites and stalactites into spiral castles.
Under the power of magic, a large number of rocks were raised and fused together, connecting multiple stalagmites to form a magnificent manor.
Soft, pale purple flames dotted the tops of these castles and the exquisite reliefs, casting a dim glow over the entire city and providing illumination.
Some high-ranking drow elves would even use their exquisite skills and magic to carve the stalactites hanging from their heads into dwellings.
Countless spider silks connect the castle above and below ground, and after hardening, they are stronger than steel wires, forming a natural suspension bridge.
The city that appeared before Thor bore a striking resemblance to the legendary city of Menzoberranzan.
This is also an underground cave, deeper underground and larger than the mushroom people's home.
Sigrún has taught at the Iceland University of the Arts as a part-time lecturer since and was Dean of the Department of Fine Art from -. In – she held a research position at Reykjavík Art Museum focusing on the role of women in Icelandic art. She studied fine art at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts and at Pratt Institute, New York, and holds BA and MA degrees in art history and philosophy from the University of Iceland. Sigrún lives and works in Iceland.
A quietly flowing underground river cuts through the center of the cave, and the stalagmites rise up like small hills. In the northeast corner of the cave, you can also see the faint glow of fire shining through the lava.
The cave is connected by a dense network of passages of varying sizes, from which all sorts of strange underground creatures constantly crawl in and out, making it resemble a giant beehive.
Thor stood proudly in an opening in the cave wall, his sharp eyes able to see the busy figures on the spiral castles even from several kilometers away.
As the largest underground city in the entire Underdark region, according to the grey dwarves, the underground cavern is home to approximately ten thousand drow elves, and their slaves number at least twice their own.
With so many creatures gathered together, their daily eating, drinking, and excretion constitute a huge expense.
The barren resources of the Darklands were clearly insufficient to supply the city, which existed entirely on the basis of the constant flow of caravans.
In just a few moments, Thor saw a large number of wagons and pack animals coming and going, driven by goblins,
Thor spotted grey dwarves, cave dwellers, and humans, and even some murlocs, including the Kotto fishmen, in the underground river that cut through the cave.
These ugly monsters, with fish heads and human bodies, covered in dull scales and silky slime, should logically be enemies of the drow elves, so how come they are also enslaved?
A slight doubt arose in Thor's mind. After finding the dwelling place of these black rats, he did not rush to launch an attack.
At a command, several kobolds quickly trotted over, each carrying a bat.
This winged mammal not only proliferates extensively on the surface of the earth, but is also a common small creature in dark regions.
As a magical ray shot from Thor's eyes, one of the bats was immediately controlled by him, flapping its wings and flying towards the distant drow city.
The dense spider webs hanging in mid-air are like natural bird traps, and some giant spiders, like patient fishermen, wait in the center of the giant webs.
Fortunately, the dragon's vision combined with the bat's own echolocation system allowed Thor to always control the bat to avoid danger one step ahead. As the distance gradually closed, more details were revealed.
To Thor's surprise, a grand festival seemed to be taking place in the drow city at that moment.
A large number of drow elves gathered in the temple's spacious plaza. The temple, built of spider webs and obsidian, was shrouded in the eternal night of the Underdark. Pale purple venom seeped from the cold rock walls, flowing along the spiderweb grooves into the blood pool in the center.
Rose's holy emblem—an eight-eyed giant spider embedded in the center of a twisted rose—glown crimson under the licking of black fire. The air was thick with a mixture of fragrance, blood, and the putrid stench of the abyss, so dense it seemed to suffocate one's breath.
One by one, the alluring drow priestesses removed their black robes, their long, silvery hair cascading down their skin, which was as black as velvet, and the gold ornaments on their ear tips jingled softly with their unrestrained movements.
They chanted around the boiling pool of blood, their low, eerie prayers piercing the cave and awakening the malice lurking in the abyss's rifts.
The air in the center of the magic circle suddenly distorted, and liquid darkness seeped out from the void, condensing into a translucent, viscous form.
The Wax-Melting Demon slowly materialized, without a fixed outline. Sometimes it transformed into a charming drow priestess, and sometimes it stretched out its spider-like limbs. Its eight eerie green eyes swept over the unrestrained creatures in the arena, and its tentacle-like limbs gently brushed against the drow beside it, bringing a profound sense of dread and pleasure.
A pale purple magical aura spread outwards, capable of arousing the deepest desires within living beings.
One by one, male drow and slaves of various races were brought up and placed beneath the female drow as if they were expendable, and were wantonly—
Although Saul already knew that these black rats were not only cruel and vicious but also notorious for their debauchery, witnessing it firsthand still broadened his horizons.
It's one thing for them to be among their own kind, but what about all those other strange and unruly races? I doubt even many evil dragons would be as unrestrained as they are.
At the very least, he had never heard of any five-colored dragon openly holding such a debauched gathering in public.
The scenes transmitted through the bat's perspective were so shocking that Thor found them somewhat jarring; he had never seen anything like them before, neither in his past life nor in this one.
An unnamed anger quickly welled up in his heart. The disgusting scene made him feel nauseous. He immediately stopped waiting, flapped his wings and took to the air, intending to catch those damned black rats off guard.
A massive red dragon, its body ablaze with flames, burst forth from a cave in the cliff face, rising like a small sun within the cave.
Boundless light and heat emanated from Thor, illuminating the world shrouded in eternal night, hurtling towards the city of the drow elves like a shooting star.
When the orange-red firelight shone on them, many creatures that had lived underground for a long time and had never seen sunlight in their entire lives were momentarily at a loss, not knowing what was happening.
Some of them looked up at the ceiling, but their eyes, already degenerated, could not adapt to the bright light and could only see a blurry blur.
"What is that?"
"It's too bright! It hurts my eyes!"
"Is it some kind of celebratory magic?"
A cacophony of noise erupted from every corner, quickly escalating into a large-scale commotion.
The drow elf noblewomen, who were immersed in desire, finally came to their senses. Their bodies tensed up suddenly, and some even crushed the pelvic bones of the males beneath them.
As they frantically picked up their discarded weapons, it was already too late. The enormous red dragon broke through all obstacles and crashed down with a deafening roar.
