Chapter 25 Monster Obik
Chapter 25 Monster Obik
Lin Yeming and the others raised their guns and confronted Obik.
Horii popped a champagne bottle halfway through the game and said, "You can't escape now, you monster!"
"I'm not called a monster, I have a name."
"My name is Obik."
"This is my shadow! Shadow, show them what's what!"
After saying that, he summoned the Shadow Mage, giving the Victory Team a taste of their own medicine.
A burst of flame shot out, but it missed its target.
Apart from Lin Yeming, everyone else subconsciously covered themselves.
A few seconds later, instead of feeling the burns from the flames on their arms, they only heard Obik's harsh words.
"Don't underestimate the power of darkness!"
Lin Yeming watched helplessly as the other party turned into a wisp of green smoke and disappeared.
Obik is a pitiful monster, and also a shadow of his past.
Lin Yeming didn't want to harm him, so he left this important task to Daigu.
He did consider saving Obik, but the other person was clearly suicidal and had no will to live; you couldn't save him.
He turned to the Victory Team and said, "Everyone, this time Obik is in your hands."
Shinjo paused for a moment, then asked, "Ye Ming, don't you want to participate in this operation?"
Why is that?
"Yeah, are you afraid of monsters?"
The others started talking all at once.
Zong Fang stopped them from asking any more questions and looked at Lin Yeming to ask.
"Dr. Lin, have you discovered something?"
Lin Yeming nodded and began to explain.
"Obik is a pitiful monster. He doesn't want to harm humans; this is just his way of retaliating because his living space has shrunk."
“I really don’t want to go so far as to exterminate them under these circumstances.”
Xincheng, however, had a different opinion. He said, "But Obik's presence everywhere has made it impossible for nearby residents to live a normal life."
“If we just let him go like this, then we’ll have to give up on this place.”
Others also chimed in to offer their advice.
Seeing this, Lin Yeming could only take out the monster tracker he had prepared and hand it to Daigo beside him.
But he had made up his mind that he would not interfere this time when Obik appeared.
"This is?"
"When did you put the monster tracker in the pot?"
The new city was quite unexpected.
Lin Yeming gave a brief explanation, then got into the patrol car and led the way.
They followed the directions to the mountain, but after wandering around for a long time, they still couldn't find it.
There was nothing they could do but rest in the car and wait until daytime to go and investigate.
"Strange, it's right here, so why can't I find it?"
Is this machine broken?
Upon hearing the question, Horii immediately snapped out of his drowsiness and retorted:
"Impossible. Everything I invent is very effective and durable."
Lina rubbed her eyes and looked around. Her somewhat sluggish mind was instantly activated, and she said, "This seems to be the place where that young man was found."
"That's right, it's the place where that young man was found."
Lin Yeming nodded.
Shin-chan looked at the dry well next to him and asked in confusion, "Could the tracker be in this well?"
The others cautiously approached the dry well, its opening overgrown with weeds and emitting a putrid smell.
Daigo took out a flashlight and shone it into the well, where he saw that the bottom of the well was dark and full of weeds.
"Let's go down and take a look," Shinjo suggested, though he was a little apprehensive, his curiosity drove him to do so.
Lina was about to go back to find the rope when, unexpectedly, a richly dressed monk suddenly appeared before them.
The monk had a solemn expression, gripping the monster tracker tightly in his hand, and calmly swept his gaze over the crowd.
"Is this what you're all looking for?"
Lina was taken aback, then exclaimed with delight, "Yes, that's it! Where did you find it?"
The monk pointed to the dry well behind him and said slowly, "Last night, I passed by this place and saw something strange happening at the well. I went closer to investigate and unexpectedly, this thing jumped out of the well and fell into my hands."
"Thank you, Master!" Lin Yeming stepped forward, bowed deeply, his gratitude overflowing. He took the tracker, examined it carefully, and after confirming that it was correct, said to everyone, "It seems that our target is indeed down in the well."
"Underground?" Shinjo frowned. "Could Obik be hiding there?"
"Very likely," Lin Yeming nodded. "But we need to proceed with caution. The situation down underground is unknown and could be dangerous."
Horii adjusted his glasses and analyzed, "Since the tracker was ejected from the well, it means there is either a passage or some kind of mechanism underground."
"No matter what, we have to go down and find out." Captain Munakata ordered, and then began to assign tasks. "Shinjo, Daigo, you come down the well with me to investigate; Rena, you stay up here to handle communication and support; Horii, you check the equipment and make sure everything is in order."
Everyone sprang into action, and after they were all ready, Shinjo, Daigo, and Captain Munakata slowly descended along the ropes that had been prepared beforehand. Lin Yeming stood at the edge of the well, gazing intently below, silently praying that the operation would go smoothly.
The world below the well was pitch black, with only the beam of a flashlight barely illuminating the path ahead. The three proceeded cautiously, careful not to disturb any creatures within. As they went deeper, the surrounding air became increasingly damp, carrying with it an indescribable musty smell.
Suddenly, a deep roar came from ahead, and then a dark shadow pounced out of the darkness!
The three reacted swiftly, drawing their weapons and engaging the shadowy figure in fierce combat. After a fierce battle, the shadowy figure was finally driven back, revealing its true form—it was Obik!
"Obik!" Daigo exclaimed in surprise. He hadn't expected to encounter this monster in such a place.
Obik's eyes flashed with hatred and despair as he roared, "Why are you forcing me? I just want to protect my home!"
“Obik, you’ve misunderstood.” Captain Munakata tried to calm him down. “We didn’t mean to hurt you. We just hope you can live in peace with humans.”
"Peaceful coexistence?" Obik sneered. "You humans destroyed my home, and you expect me to coexist peacefully with you? Dream on!"
Seeing the tension escalating between the two sides, Lin Yeming was extremely anxious by the well. He knew that if things continued like this, it would only cause more harm and misunderstanding.
So he took a deep breath and shouted, "Obik! Listen to me!"
His voice echoed at the bottom of the well, seemingly touching a chord within Obik. Obik stopped his attack and turned to look at Lin Yeming at the well's edge.
“Obik, I know your pain and anger,” Lin Yeming said sincerely. “But you should understand that humans and monsters are not natural enemies.”
We can find a way for both of us to survive in this world.
"The village is gone!"
Obik shouted angrily and turned to leave.
He used his ability to travel to another place.
