Chapter 1: A New Paparazzi Arrives at D-Company
After tidying himself up, Xie Mingmu arrived at D Company.
Dispatch is a large news agency. Although it is famous for its scandals, it is relatively low-key in appearance. It is just a small, dilapidated building with no more than three floors.
Xie Mingmu looked at the D Company sign. Whether he could continue to get closer to her depended on whether he could pass the interview today.
Despite this, Xie Mingmu did not feel excited. Instead, he appeared relaxed and at ease, as if he were the interviewer.
Upon entering the building, Xie Mingmu informed the receptionist of his purpose. Xie Mingmu glanced at the document and said: "An artificial human."
"Go straight from here, take the elevator to the third floor, there will be signs there."
Following the receptionist's instructions, Xie Mingmu arrived at a room. After a while, the three interviewers also arrived late.
Three men. It seems that the paparazzi industry is more popular among men. Xie Mingmu looked at the interviewer, his thoughts wandering.
They were quite polite; instead of letting Xie Mingmu introduce himself first, they introduced themselves first.
They didn't even ask Xie Mingmu to introduce his resume. Having lived two lives, Xie Mingmu couldn't help but sigh: Finally, I've seen a normal person. Unlike in my later lives, where people would repeat things that were already on their resumes, as if it were a joke.
"...These are the requirements, rules, and benefits for joining our D Company. Mr. Xie, what do you think? Is it acceptable?"
Xie Mingmu was a little confused. He had been distracted and hadn't heard what they had just said.
The exceptionally intelligent man sitting in the center, seeing his expression, assumed he had some kind of dissatisfaction, and thus asked, "Is there anything you're dissatisfied with?"
After speaking, he paused again, with a hint of disbelief: "We looked at your resume and asked some acquaintances in Tokyo. To be honest, we were very surprised that an excellent lawyer would become a journalist, or rather, a paparazzi."
Xie Mingmu smiled and said, "Being a photographer is my hobby, and I'm quite good at it too."
They only invited Xie Mingmu to the interview after seeing the photo he sent. They didn't care about the story behind it; as long as Xie Mingmu met their requirements, that was enough.
"Haha, judging from the work you sent, you do meet our recruitment standards. We've already discussed the compensation and benefits. To be honest, we're short-staffed right now, so let's skip the onboarding training and stuff; it's unnecessary anyway."
If you agree to join our company, you'll start working very soon. Overtime is the norm, and the overtime pay is very generous.
Xie Mingmu hadn't expected this Mediterranean gentleman to be so honest. He liked people like that, who didn't beat around the bush.
Mr. Mediterranean pulled a contract from the table, still smelling of ink: "If you'd like, please sign your name here, here, and there, along with a confidentiality agreement."
Xie Mingmu accepted the contract and confidentiality agreement, which were still somewhat warm.
Korean is a phonetic language, which is easy to misunderstand. That's why Chinese is needed to supplement it. Xie Mingmu looked at the contracts and agreements printed in Korean and Chinese: very normal industry regulations.
"Okay, I agree."
"Ah! Welcome to our company."
The three older men warmly shook Xie Mingmu's hands. Xie Mingmu was somewhat surprised. Wasn't workplace bullying a serious problem in South Korea? Could there be some kind of shady conspiracy behind it?
After signing the contract, Xie Mingmu was taken away by an android from the HR department. After entering his bank card information, he was led to a small conference room to wait.
A short while later, a young woman entered the conference room. She was of average appearance and was definitely not a cyborg.
"Hello, are you my partner?" Xie Mingmu asked, standing up.
As Xie Mingmu was a newcomer to the paparazzi business, they considered his lack of experience and arranged for someone to lead the team so that he could quickly adapt to the pace of paparazzi work.
Kim So-hee looked at Xie Mingmu and her eyes lit up. He was very handsome and gave her a stunning feeling: This junior should become an actor!
Seeing Jin Suxi's greedy look, Xie Mingmu subconsciously reached for his mouth but didn't touch his mask.
Having good looks has its advantages, and it's certainly useful for Kim So-hee. She spoke gently, "Animeida! I'm not your partner, but your senior!"
When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Xie Mingmu didn't bother to argue: "May I ask, what is your name, senior?"
"My name is Kim So-hee. From now on, you should call me Kim Sunbae. You can't just call me by my name. Or you can call me Noona~~"
Xie Mingmu rolled his eyes. "Senior Jin, my name is Xie Mingmu. I look forward to your guidance in the future."
"Let me go into some more detail, and there are some issues you need to pay attention to. You should be able to drive, right? Driving is a basic skill in our line of work."
"Yes."
Jin Suxi began to teach Xie Mingmu a lot of common sense, which helped him understand many things and greatly satisfied his curiosity.
After speaking for about three hours, Kim So-hee finally got to the main point.
"According to our information channels, Miss A's Bae Suzy has some issues. We suspect she's having a serious falling out with the company and there's a problem within the group, but we haven't had any relevant photos. This is our team's task: to take photos of bullying within the group!"
Dispatch doesn't pay its paparazzi very high salaries; they mainly make money from information.
Xie Mingmu nodded. "That's the nation's first love, isn't she?"
"Let's divide the work. I'll be in charge of information, communication, and logistical support from now on, because I have other things to do and I've been very busy lately."
Kim So-hee glanced at Xie Mingmu, but he paid no attention. He knew perfectly well that this was just an excuse for Kim So-hee to be lazy.
Seeing Xie Mingmu's unchanged expression, he continued to comfort him, "Of course, don't take these things too seriously. I think the bullying allegations against Miss A are absolutely impossible. How could Park Jin-young allow such a thing to happen? Bae Suzy is his cash cow!"
"Yes~ I'll work hard and definitely catch a big news story." It's important to show the right attitude, especially since you've just started the job.
"It's okay. Many things like this fail. Even if you don't manage to get the shot, don't be too discouraged. This line of work isn't easy."
Kim So-hee sighed and continued, "However, if you succeed just once, it will be equivalent to a year's basic salary! And your opportunity has arrived—you have a great chance to join JYP Entertainment!"
Upon hearing this, Xie Mingmu was overjoyed. What delighted him wasn't the reward for the successful whistleblower, but the opportunity to join JYP Entertainment, the company behind the group the Hyogo Prefecture girl belonged to.
Xie Mingmu was determined to seize this opportunity.
