Chapter 47 Interview 2
Chapter 47 Interview 2
A coffee shop located about one kilometer from the film set.
Huang Min ordered two cups of coffee.
He sat down in a private room by the window on the second floor, pushed one of his glasses towards the woman, and said, "Have some to warm up first! By the way, I haven't asked your name yet."
"Teacher Huang, my name is Gan Li."
The woman replied respectfully.
She picked up her coffee and took a couple of sips, looking slightly reserved, before taking off the small camera hanging around her neck. She then pulled out paper and pen from her coat pocket and asked tentatively, "May I ask you a few questions now?"
"Why did you suddenly decide to interview me!?"
Huang Min neither agreed nor refused, but instead asked this question with a smile.
Judging from the fact that he had been standing outside the film set for several hours and the woman's constant nervousness, Huang Min felt that the woman named Gan Li in front of him didn't seem like a paparazzi.
After all, when paparazzi want to ask a celebrity a question, they usually surround and secretly take photos. Even if there is a wall, the paparazzi can climb over it. Especially in films like "The Terror Live," the management of outsiders is not strict. When filming is in progress during the day, there is only one staff member watching over the place to prevent outsiders from sneaking in.
But this is not difficult for paparazzi who want to sneak in.
"My master said he could find a big story in you."
The woman replied honestly.
"What does your master look like!?"
Huang Min asked, "Male or female!?"
"Woman"
Gan Li replied, "My skin is a bit dark, I'm not very tall, and my looks are just average."
"I see"
Huang Min suddenly realized, and he chuckled, "If I remember correctly, your master should be that female reporter who surrounded me last month. After I gave her a piece of my mind, she probably wanted to make things difficult for you, an intern reporter, so she asked you to interview me, waiting for me to give you a piece of my mind so she could see the show."
"Will you yell at me?!"
Gan Li asked nervously.
Even the way she looked at Huang Min was filled with trepidation.
"Why did you suddenly decide to become a paparazzi!?"
Huang Min reached out and picked up his coffee cup, taking a sip. He turned to look out the window of the private room. The raindrops, which had turned into moderate rain under the streetlights, became clear as they fell. Through the window, he could hear a soothing voice coming from the night as it was about to end.
"I studied journalism, but after graduating from university, I couldn't get into TV stations, newspapers, or media convergence centers, so I could only find a job at a private media company. Then the boss had me follow Sister Tang and learn from her."
Gan Li replied honestly.
"Your personality isn't really suited to being a journalist."
Huang Min withdrew his gaze from the window and smiled at Gan Li sitting opposite him. Since they met not long ago, Huang Min had been observing whether this woman was pretending to be the weak and timid type or if she was really like that. After observing her, Huang Min did not find any trace of acting in this woman.
Because throughout the entire process, the woman's emotions were synchronized with her words and actions.
I think so too.
Gan Li nodded, then gave a wry smile: "But jobs are hard to find these days. I originally wanted to work at a TV station after graduation and work hard for a few years, but I was rejected in the first round of interviews."
"You can't get into that place just by having an interview."
Huang Min replied, "Alright, we've talked enough. You can ask me anything now, but before you ask, I need to confirm one thing: after I answer your questions, will they definitely be published?"
"I……"
Gan Li wanted to explain, but ultimately gave Huang Min a vague answer: "I don't know."
"..."
Huang Min was speechless.
He realized that Gan Li had most likely been sent over by her mentor, since she didn't even have the most basic privileges of a reporter. But after thinking for a moment, Huang Min still said, "Go ahead and ask!"
Thank you, Professor Huang Min.
Gan Li immediately thanked her, then formally opened her notebook and asked her first question of the evening: "Was 'The Terror Live' your first film after transitioning to directing?"
"no"
Huang Min shook his head: "The director of this film is someone else. The reason I'm on set is because I have a good relationship with the director. I happen to have some free time lately, so I often come to watch him film. Mainly, it's easy to overthink when you're alone at home, and once you start overthinking, it's easy to get stuck in a rut."
Gan Li glanced at Huang Min, but did not refute him. Instead, she wrote down his words.
Huang Min also had his own ideas.
People in the industry may know, but they will never admit it, mainly because he hasn't cleared his name yet. If the audience knew that he was the director of "The Terror Live," he would definitely face severe backlash.
Even if it gets exposed by reporters later, as long as he doesn't go out with the main cast for promotions, the resistance will be much weaker. After all, not every movie fan will pay attention to entertainment gossip and hot topics.
"So what story is 'The Terror Live' about!?"
Gan Li asked again.
"It tells the story of a desperate young man who wants to seek justice through live streaming."
Huang Min replied with a smile, "You can go to the cinema to see it then; it's definitely worth watching."
"Next question, you keep saying Lin Wan slandered you, why is that!?"
After asking the question, Gan Li's expression became tense, as if she was worried that Huang Min would be angry.
"Why do you have to ask Lin Wan about that?"
Huang Min wasn't angry. He pondered for a moment and replied, "Probably only she and her agent know the truth. First, you need to consider one thing: I've already signed the divorce agreement with her, and she took most of the assets. In other words, we had a peaceful divorce without any acrimony. But soon after, she suddenly made accusations against me, revealing many stains on my record. There's clearly something wrong here. How could such a scheming woman do something without a purpose? So if you really want to know, just ask Lin Wan. But I don't think she'll tell you. After all, she's now the 'Pure and Innocent Girl Leader,' and that persona is really quite striking."
"Many people say you committed suicide because you were afraid of punishment..."
As she spoke, Gan Li looked at Huang Min and said, "Teacher Huang, if we don't want to discuss this issue, we can skip it."
It's okay.
Huang Min waved his hand, indicating that it wasn't necessary: "I didn't attempt suicide because I felt guilty or afraid of punishment. It's because I felt that I hadn't done anything wrong, yet I ended up in such a state in a very short time. My career was ruined, my image was ruined, and I was almost bankrupt from paying the breach of contract fees to the brands. In other words, Lin Wan's few casual words destroyed all my years of hard work. Coupled with so many voices criticizing me from all sides, I couldn't think straight for a moment. I really like the saying, 'Only those who wrong you know how wronged you are,' haha."
Huang Min chuckled twice, finished his coffee, put down the cup, and continued, "If you can get it published, please write a sentence at the end for me: 'Jade Girl Leader,' which is really 'desire,' the 'desire' of desire. Don't spell it wrong."
I took out my phone and checked the time.
Huang Min stood up and said, "That's about enough. Let's talk again after you're promoted from intern to full-fledged reporter and have some authority. Also, you need to change your personality. Reporters who are too timid won't get any exciting news. In the workplace, you can't be used as a tool. You need to be smarter and have a bit of aggression in your personality. After all, this world is not reasonable."
Huang Min took off his coat and handed it to Gan Li, saying with a smile, "You can return it to me when you have the chance, no rush. Your coat is too thin. Remember to wear something thicker when you go out to work in the future. Work is for a better life, and to have a good quality of life, you must first have a healthy body."
After Huang Min left.
Gan Li held the coat he had given her. She realized that this man was nothing like what her master, Sister Tang, had described—that since his suicide attempt, he had become extremely irritable, as if he were about to kill someone at any moment.
Gan Li draped her coat over her lap, took off her large black-rimmed glasses, and pulled a tissue from the box on the table to wipe the glasses.
Hidden behind her old-fashioned and outdated glasses were a pair of beautiful peach blossom eyes.
