Chapter 34 A Night Encounter with Golden Spears
Chapter 34 A Night Encounter with Golden Spears
Chen Feng lay on the stone wall outside the window, completely concealing his figure in the night, and peered into the house.
This room is much more spacious, with two double beds and a large living area.
There were three people in total, two men and one woman.
The two men faced the window, while the woman sat on a stool with her back to the window, her long, curly hair hanging over her shoulders.
One of them was a man in his early twenties with a full head of blond hair, dressed in jeans, and with a pistol tucked into his waistband.
The other man was nearly thirty years old, with blue eyes and red hair. He wore a top hat and a black suit, which made him look refined and scholarly, much like an English gentleman.
"I have a feeling that what you're saying about treasure is unreliable. This godforsaken place has been searched by the Spanish for over three hundred years. If there were any treasure, they would have been transported back to their country long ago," the blond youth said first.
The red-haired gentleman chimed in, "That's right! The natives of Luzon are about to attack the city. It's too risky for us to stay here."
The woman smoothed her curly hair and chuckled, "You're trying to back out now that we've reached our destination? If it weren't for our family ties, I wouldn't have bothered calling you."
That voice... sounds so familiar.
Chen Feng frowned slightly, and instantly realized what was happening.
This woman was none other than Marilyn, who had fallen into the sea with her on the day they crossed the river!
Today, she looks completely different from when we first met: she's wearing a white tight-fitting short-sleeved top and a black leather skirt, showing off her hot figure, no longer the long dress she wore before.
"What I'm worried about is inaccurate intelligence!" the red-haired gentleman said in a low voice.
"I used to be an intelligence specialist for the Pacific Fleet. How could a top-secret telegram I personally intercepted be fake?" Marilyn's tone was slightly smug.
Chen Feng's heart skipped a beat.
No wonder this woman understands Chinese and dared to travel to Luzon by boat alone; it turns out she used to be an intelligence agent for the US military.
This treasure clue is likely inextricably linked to the old grievances of Spanish colonialism.
The blond youth asked urgently, "Even if the treasure is real, we're already in Malolos, shouldn't you tell us the exact location?"
"It's in the church next door." Before Marilyn could finish speaking, she had already gotten up and walked towards the window.
Chen Feng quickly pulled his head back, pressed himself against the wall, and held his breath.
The red-haired gentleman followed to the window, gazing at the sparsely lit church in the distance. He shook his head and said, "That church is right next to the Spanish military camp, and there are priests stationed inside. How do we make our move?"
"We only have three pistols, barely enough for self-defense. Breaking into a church and stealing treasure? That's just wishful thinking!" The blond youth shook his head repeatedly.
"whee......"
Marilyn's laughter rang out like silver bells, then she lowered her voice, "At first I was worried too, but recently I heard that the Independence Army is going to attack the city, so there's a solution, isn't there?"
"What method?"
"Speak quickly!"
The two spoke at the same time.
"What's there to worry about with those priests who can't even lift a knife? Once the independence army storms the city, the Spanish army will be too busy to take care of themselves. We'll take advantage of the chaos to break into the church, steal the treasure, and immediately run to the port to take a ship back to America." Marilyn said casually, but her eyes gleamed.
The red-haired gentleman stroked his chin: "Who buried this treasure? What's inside? Is it enough for the three of us to share?"
Marilyn's smile faded, and she slowly explained, "In 1639, the Spanish colonial government forced Chinese people to convert to Catholicism and demanded that they work for free, which was met with resistance."
The then-governor, Sebastian Hurtado, resorted to bloody repression, killing as many as 30,000 Chinese and seizing countless gold and silver treasures.
At the time, the church was not yet completed. Hurtado, thinking of leaving a way out for his family, hid about half a ton of gold in the basement and wrote the news into the family annals.
My intelligence was deciphered from a copy of the message.
Chen Feng listened to these words without doubting their truthfulness.
Most of the Chinese who first ventured to Southeast Asia came from Fujian.
The people of this place have a long-standing tradition of possessing eight taels of gold, and in later generations, a movie was even made about it.
This half-ton of gold is not even the total amount of property that Hurtado plundered from the Chinese.
The blood debt owed by the Chinese must be repaid with blood.
This amount of gold isn't even enough to cover the interest payments!
"Only half a ton?"
The red-haired gentleman was ruthless; he actually complained that it wasn't enough.
Marilyn scoffed, "Peter, your family is so poor you had to sell your house. You think you can just carry away twenty kilograms of gold? That's enough for you to live a carefree life for the rest of your days?"
"Is there any way to move all the gold?" The blond youth asked greedily.
"If you're not afraid of attracting the independence army or the Spanish, then go ahead and get someone to move it." Marilyn gave him a cold glance.
Jack chuckled awkwardly, "Never mind, we can only trust our cousins."
Chen Feng had heard enough. As the three turned back to the coffee table, he quietly climbed back to his windowsill, turned over, and jumped into the room.
Inside the room, Qian Biao remained sitting upright, gripping the curved knife at his waist, showing no sign of sleep.
Seeing Chen Feng return, his tense expression relaxed, and he said in a low voice, "General, shall I go get you a basin of hot water?"
"It's so late, where am I going to find hot water?" Chen Feng waved his hand, unsheathed his knife, and took out a change of clothes from his bag. "I'll just take a cold shower."
After saying that, he turned the doorknob and walked out of the room.
Coincidentally, Marilyn had just come out of the next room and was about to go back to her own room.
"Pay attention!"
Chen Feng deftly sidestepped, preventing the two from colliding.
"Is it you?"
Marilyn had a very strong impression of the man who had refused to help her in her time of need and recognized him instantly.
"Is it you?"
Chen Feng also feigned surprise, pretending that he had just recognized her.
"snort!"
Marilyn gave a soft snort, glared at him fiercely, swayed her hips, and clattered into the room in her high heels, slamming the door shut behind her.
Chen Feng touched his nose, looked at the number 303 on the door, and a slight smile appeared on his lips.
This woman is so arrogant!
When the time comes, we'll steal your treasure and make sure the three of you can't even afford a boat ticket home. Let's see if you're still so arrogant then!
creak...
The door suddenly opened.
Marilyn, holding a bath towel, saw him still standing in the doorway with a strange smile on his face. Startled, she took two steps back and shouted, "What do you want? I'm warning you, my two brothers are right next door!"
The shout immediately startled the other guests on the floor.
The first to peek out was Nobuyuki Aoki.
The old Japanese man squinted at Chen Feng and Marilyn, a knowing smirk immediately spreading across his face. He muttered in Japanese, "Heroes have always loved beauties. So Chen-san has a taste for this. Next time, we can use that to our advantage."
Although Chen Feng couldn't understand Japanese, he could guess what was going on from the old Japanese man's sleazy appearance. Just as he was about to explain, the old Japanese man closed the door again.
Immediately afterward, Qian Biao also poked his head out.
When Chen Feng saw him trying to come over, he quickly stopped him with a look.
squeak...
The door to the next room opened again, and Peter and Jack, shirtless with guns at their waists, stormed out, fuming: "Kid, what did you do to my sister?"
