Chapter 9 Jessica Jung's Invitation
Chapter 9 Jessica Jung's Invitation
The other end of the phone suddenly went silent.
A few seconds later, Krystal Jung's soft voice rang out:
"Jessica, you have a boyfriend?"
Jessica was taken aback: "What are you talking about? What boyfriend do you mean?"
"Then why can't I stay at your house? I'm your own sister."
"...The house is being renovated and can't be lived in for a while."
"Renovate? Why do you suddenly want to renovate? And didn't you just say you were going to go home?"
"..."
I knew this girl wasn't so easy to fool.
"I saw a nice interior design online a couple of days ago, and I was thinking of changing it. When I said 'going home,' I meant going back to your place."
Krystal Jung also owns a house in Seoul.
"Okay, I got it. I thought you were dating someone and living with a guy."
"How could I possibly be in a relationship, let alone live together?"
Jessica replied immediately, but her tone sounded somewhat guilty.
I'm not dating anyone, but I do have a man I live with, and we even slept in the same bed a couple of days ago.
"Okay, just don't forget to pick me up tomorrow afternoon."
"Okay, okay, okay."
Jessica replied and then hung up the phone, letting out a sigh of relief.
Fooling this girl is no easy task, but I managed to get away with it.
Jessica put down her phone, started the car, and drove towards her and Chen Ran's home.
I need to go home and tell Chen Ran about his future death, and also about Xiujing's return.
With Soo-jung back, she won't be able to stay at home for the next few days.
About ten minutes later, the car returned to the villa.
Jessica opened the door and went inside.
Chen Ran wasn't in the living room; he was probably writing a script in his study.
Jessica didn't linger and went straight to the study on the second floor.
The study door was open, and Chen Ran, who had just heard Jessica's footsteps, got up from his chair as she walked to the door.
Upon seeing her, Chen Ran was somewhat surprised: "Why are you back so soon? It's only been less than two hours."
"Forehead"
Jessica's prepared words suddenly got stuck in her throat.
It was a matter of life and death, and she didn't know how to start. She couldn't very well just say, "Chen Ran, you're going to die."
Noticing her hesitation, Chen Ran raised an eyebrow slightly: "Is there something you want to tell me?"
Jessica pursed her lips and nodded gently.
"Then just say it. If you have something to say, just say it."
"...good."
Jessica walked to the chair on the other side of the desk and sat down, and Chen Ran sat down opposite her.
The two looked at each other for a long while before Jessica took a deep breath and spoke:
"I just met Yoona from 25 years ago, and I learned something about you from 25 years ago."
Jessica then told Chen Ran, who was on the other side of the table, the news that Chen Ran had died unexpectedly in a car accident 25 years ago.
After the matter was discussed, the study fell silent.
Jessica observed Chen Ran's expression; he was completely lost in thought.
After a long while, his eyes finally refocused.
"That means... I died in a car accident on April 20, 2025. In 2025, I've been dead for almost half a month."
Jessica pursed her lips and nodded slowly.
She quickly added, "But I've been thinking about it, and I think we can change the future."
"Think about it, if the past can be changed, why can't we change the known future? As long as we avoid danger when the time comes, the future can be changed."
Chen Ran didn't speak, but just lowered his eyes slightly and looked at the table, seemingly lost in thought.
The study fell silent once more.
After a long pause, he finally looked up at Jessica and asked, "Can I think about this by myself?"
"Oh... okay."
Jessica immediately got up and left, gently closing the study door behind her.
She could completely understand Chen Ran's desire to be alone for a while.
If one day someone suddenly comes to her and tells her that she will die at some point in the future.
And it's not just some fortune teller spouting nonsense; it's something that has actually happened in the future.
She definitely needs time to process the impact of this.
Back in the living room on the first floor, Jessica didn't turn on the TV. Instead, she sat on the sofa and continued searching online for various news about Chen Ran's death 25 years ago, hoping to find more useful information.
The whole house fell silent, with only the faint sound of cars speeding by on the road coming from outside the gate.
Nearly two hours later, a clear sound of a door opening came from the second floor.
Upon hearing the sound, Jessica immediately looked up.
Chen Ran's figure quickly appeared at the top of the stairs.
Upon seeing Jessica on the sofa, a familiar smile appeared on his face:
"It's time for lunch. There's not much left in the fridge. How about we just have some noodles for lunch?"
The familiar daily conversation, the gentle voice, exactly the same as Chen Ran from the previous two days.
"Oh... okay," Jessica replied blankly.
Chen Ran turned and walked towards the kitchen.
Jessica stared at his retreating figure, still not quite understanding what was happening.
Judging from this, you've adjusted your mindset?
It should be.
A moment later, Chen Ran finished cooking the noodles.
The two sat down facing each other. Jessica picked up a piece of noodles with her chopsticks, but her attention was entirely on Chen Ran's face.
Noticing her gaze, Chen Ran swallowed the noodles in his mouth, put down his chopsticks, and looked at her openly.
"You don't need to keep looking at me. At least for now, I've adjusted my mindset and have pretty much accepted what the future holds."
Jessica paused in her chewing, quickly swallowed the noodles, and was about to say something when Chen Ran continued:
"Just like you said, we have now proven that the past can be changed, so perhaps the future can be changed as well."
Jessica nodded quickly: "Yes, I think it's okay. Don't worry, I'll find out the details and let you know as soon as possible."
Chen Ran smiled and said, "Okay, thank you. I will do my best to help you change the past."
Upon hearing this, Jessica smiled and said, "You're welcome. We're business partners."
She did have some personal motives in helping Chen Ran.
If Chen Ran is devastated by the news of her future death, then no one can help her change the past.
Jessica watched Chen Ran pick up his chopsticks, and a hint of admiration appeared in her eyes.
Chen Ran's ability to accept the news so quickly and adjust his mindset demonstrates his strong resilience.
At Chen Ran's age, she didn't seem to have this kind of resilience.
If Chen Ran knew what Jessica was thinking at this moment, he would probably find it both funny and exasperating.
Actually, he wasn't particularly resilient to pressure; he just knew he still had hope.
Even if we take a step back and assume his death occurred 13 years later, which is still a long way off, there's no need to give up on life and wait for death now.
Instead, we should work harder in our lives so that we can be more capable of changing the future.
"Eat your noodles, or they'll clump together."
"it is good."
The sounds of people eating noodles echoed throughout the restaurant.
In the strange atmosphere, the distance between the two seemed to have been shortened considerably because of this incident.
"Adu"
Suddenly, a message notification sounded.
Chen Ran reached out and picked up the phone that was placed to the side.
Jessica Jung: [Chen Ran, are you free tomorrow? I'd like to invite you to dinner.]
