Chapter 78 Will Come Again Tonight
Chapter 78 Will Come Again Tonight
"Madam, Madam, wake up."
Ruyi nudged Wen Jiayue somewhat anxiously.
"What is it?" Wen Jiayue asked sleepily. "Is it dawn yet?"
"Madam, the Marquis has arrived!"
Wen Jiayue immediately woke up and opened her eyes wide to look out the window.
On a dark, chilly winter night, Shen Fuhan had actually come to the Wen residence?
"Am I dreaming?" Wen Jiayue said, somewhat dazed. "It's all because you said last night that the Marquis would come. I've been thinking about it all day and now I'm dreaming about it..."
“It’s not a dream,” Ruyi said anxiously. “Madam, please get up quickly. Master and the others have already gone over. They’re just waiting for you.”
Wen Jiayue still couldn't believe it and asked, "He really came?"
“It’s true, absolutely true,” Ruyi said, picking up her clothes. “Let’s hurry to the main courtyard.”
Wen Jiayue stopped her, frowning as she said, "Why go to the main courtyard? He's coming in the middle of the night, are we going to make a big fuss about it?"
Ruyi hesitated and said, "But you're the only one who hasn't gone yet. What if the Marquis blames me..."
“Why blame me? Just say I didn’t wake up,” Wen Jiayue lay back down. “I’m going back to sleep.”
Ruyi was stunned. Seeing that the lady had really lay down, she left, turning back every few steps.
Wen Jiayue closed her eyes, but she was wide awake.
She was a little confused; she didn't understand why Shen Fuhan had suddenly come here.
Is it worth coming to the Wen residence in the cold wind all night just to avoid nightmares?
Wen Jiayue couldn't figure out Shen Fuhan's thoughts at all. She forced herself to stop thinking about it, but her brain was still active and wouldn't obey her commands.
After an unknown amount of time, the door creaked open, and familiar footsteps approached from afar.
Wen Jiayue quickly adjusted her breathing, trying to slow down.
The footsteps stopped not far away, and she could feel a gaze falling on her, watching her.
If she hadn't known it was Shen Fuhan watching her, it would have been quite frightening, especially late at night.
Not long after, the sight disappeared and the footsteps faded into the distance, as if they were going to the restroom.
Wen Jiayue secretly breathed a sigh of relief and continued to pretend to be asleep.
He came back quickly, lifted the covers, and lay down inside.
A warm body pressed against her, and Wen Jiayue pursed her lips.
She should have asked Ruyi to bring another blanket.
However, this would prove that she had just woken up, which is not appropriate.
Just as she was thinking about these random things, Shen Fuhan hugged her.
Wen Jiayue froze, hesitating between waking up and continuing to pretend to be asleep.
A faint chuckle suddenly came from behind.
Wen Jiayue was stunned for a moment, wondering if she had misheard. How could Shen Fuhan possibly be laughing?
But if he can even come to the Wen residence in the middle of the night, what else is impossible for him?
Wen Jiayue wanted to ask him why he came, but she had been pretending to be asleep for so long and couldn't let it all go to waste.
Moreover, he didn't make any other move for a long time, and if he suddenly woke up, it would seem fake, so he decided to continue pretending to be asleep.
Her breathing became even and calm, her chaotic thoughts gradually disappeared, and she fell asleep.
When she woke up, Shen Fuhan was nowhere to be found.
Last night felt like a dream to her.
She summoned Ruyi and asked if Shen Fuhan had come over last night.
"Of course the Marquis has come! Madam must be dreaming!"
Wen Jiayue didn't speak; perhaps it really was a dream within a dream.
She still can't believe that Shen Fuhan would actually come to the Wen residence.
"However, the Marquis left before dawn," Ruyi sighed, "He must have had a hard time."
Wen Jiayue spoke up: "He is willing to suffer, and no one is forcing him."
Seeing that the lady's expression was not quite right, Ruyi didn't say anything more.
After washing up, Wen Jiayue went to the main hall for breakfast.
Because of Shen Fuhan's actions last night, the Wen family's attitude was noticeably better than yesterday, except for Wen Ruohuan.
When she stared at her, Wen Ruohuan's face would occasionally flash with jealousy and resentment.
Wen Jiayue remained calm, and just as she looked over again, she happened to raise her eyes and meet Wen Ruohuan's distorted face.
"What's wrong with Huan'er?" she asked, frowning. "Why are you looking at me like that, like I'm your enemy?"
Wen Ruohuan never expected that she would find out, and quickly gave a sweet smile.
Her mind raced, and she came up with a reason.
"I didn't sleep well last night and I have a stiff neck. My neck hurts a bit, and I can't help but grimace when I turn it."
Wen Jiayue said with concern, "Huan'er must be in a lot of pain. Ruyi, go and fetch a doctor to take a look."
Before Wen Ruohuan could stop her, Ruyi had already strode towards the door.
"Sister, I'm fine," Wen Ruohuan said anxiously. "It's just a stiff neck, it'll be fine in a bit."
She just made up an excuse on the spot, why is Wen Jiayue taking it so seriously!
“That won’t do,” Wen Jiayue insisted. “It would be bad if it caused any long-term health problems.”
Zhang, who had been observing, spoke up: "Your sister said she wants to see a doctor, so let's go see one."
For her, this was no big deal at all.
Even if it's fake, if the doctor sees there's money to be made, he'll naturally try to make it sound like it's real.
Wen Ruohuan asked anxiously, "But..."
"Didn't Huan'er say last time that I wasn't good to you at all and didn't care about you enough?"
Wen Jiayue interrupted her: "I've been so concerned about you today, why don't you appreciate it?"
Wen Ruohuan had no choice but to agree.
Wen Jiayue smiled and continued eating.
She knew perfectly well that the doctor wouldn't expose her, and that was enough to dampen Wen Ruohuan's arrogance.
She was going to stay at the Wen residence for another two or three days, but she didn't want to be subjected to inexplicable glares every now and then.
After the meal, the doctor arrived.
Wen Ruohuan nervously asked the doctor to treat her, while Zhang Shi said something about her stiff neck.
As expected, the doctor didn't expose him. He pretended to straighten his bones, took the money, and left.
Wen Jiayue had finished watching the excitement and made an excuse to leave.
Back in her room, she began to organize her paintings.
She had drawn many pictures when she was young, and she kept almost all of them. She wanted to take them back to the Marquis's mansion.
I originally just wanted to put them away one by one, but I ended up looking at them for longer and longer.
Each painting carries her memories, which surge forth the moment she sees them, as if she has returned to her childhood.
Wen Jiayue stroked a dragonfly, a look of nostalgia in her eyes.
When she was young, the thing she drew most often was probably dragonflies.
She was quite gifted back then, and every dragonfly she painted was lifelike; she is now ashamed of herself for not being as good as her.
Speaking of which, her love for drawing dragonflies stems from that boy next door.
She always remembered his name backwards: Tingqing, Dragonfly.
By the time she finally remembered, he had moved his entire family away.
She missed him by drawing dragonflies, and she did this for two or three years.
So much time has passed that Wen Jiayue has almost forgotten what the dragonfly brother looked like, leaving only a blurry outline.
I vaguely remember that he was gentle and exceptionally patient with her.
As Wen Jiayue pondered the past, she carefully placed the last painting away.
She reminded him, "Remember to bring these paintings with you when you go back."
As you wish, remember it carefully.
After killing time all day, Wen Jiayue prepared to go to sleep.
Ruyi hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Madam, aren't you going to wait for the Marquis?"
Wen Jiayue was taken aback: "What do you mean?"
Is Shen Fuhan coming over again?
Ruyi stammered, "This morning, before the Marquis left, he told me that he would come again tonight."
