Chapter 96 Innocent
Chapter 96 Innocent
"Sister-in-law, where is Grandma?"
When Shen Fuyou returned after having enough fun, he saw Wen Jiayue sitting alone at the table.
She was surrounded by a lively crowd, but she was all alone and seemed out of place.
Wen Jiayue smiled and explained, "Grandmother went to change her clothes."
Shen Fuyou then sat down in her grandmother's seat and said considerately, "Then I'll keep you company for a while."
Wen Jiayue covered her mouth and smiled, her almond-shaped eyes curving into crescent moons.
She asked quietly, "Is it about Miss Yan'er again?"
“Sister-in-law should have gone to a fortune teller,” Shen Fuyou said embarrassedly, “You saw right through me.”
He had been trying to find an opportunity to talk to her, but his older brother was always by his sister-in-law's side.
Now that his elder brother had gone to see the Emperor, he quickly slipped back.
"Hurry up and tell me," Wen Jiayue urged, "otherwise your grandmother or your older brother will be back soon."
Shen Fuyou coughed and then said, "The gold-inlaid jade pendant is finished. I'm not sure if Yan'er will like it or not, so I wanted you to take a look first."
As he spoke, he took out two jade pendants shaped like twin lotus blossoms from his bosom.
The jade pendant was dropped cleverly, just enough to separate the twin lotus flowers.
Each of the gold-inlaid parts is carved with a lotus flower, one gold and one jade, which complement each other well.
Wen Jiayue looked at it carefully for a moment, then nodded and said, "The meaning is very good. I think Miss Yan'er will like it."
Upon hearing this, Shen Fuyou breathed a sigh of relief: "Then I'm relieved. I'll bring the jade pendant to her tonight."
Tonight? Wen Jiayue was taken aback. Did he mean to go over after the palace banquet?
She looked around and, seeing that no one was paying attention, asked, "How often do you two meet?"
Shen Fuyou hesitated for a long time before finally speaking, "I see you every day."
Wen Jiayue frowned and asked, "Aren't you afraid of being found out by your grandmother and your eldest brother?"
"But I keep thinking about her and can't help but go see her."
He was exceptionally frank, which left Wen Jiayue speechless.
“You…” she sighed, “Fine, I’ll try my best to keep it a secret for you, but you have to go and come back soon.”
Shen Fuyou nodded and smiled, "I knew my sister-in-law was the best."
Wen Jiayue looked at him, then at the surroundings, and finally couldn't help but say the words that had been swirling in her heart for so long.
"Fourth brother," she said earnestly, "I know you like Miss Yan'er, but unless you are absolutely certain that she will enter the Marquis's mansion, you must not get pregnant."
Having a mistress is disgraceful, especially since Shen Fuyou is not yet married. If a child is discovered, he, Miss Yan'er, and the child will all be condemned.
The Marquis of Jing'an's household already has Shen Funian, who has a child out of wedlock, and cannot afford a second upheaval.
Wen Jiayue naturally had her own selfish motives; she wanted to consider Zhaozhao's future.
Her aunt and uncle both act this way; when she grows up, there will definitely be gossip.
Shen Fuyou's affair with his mistress has already occurred; we cannot allow it to escalate to even more serious consequences.
"Actually... Yan'er and I haven't..." Shen Fuyou scratched his head, his face turning red, and hesitated to speak.
Wen Jiayue was completely confused and was about to ask when he sighed and said, "Never mind, I can guarantee that what you're worried about won't happen."
"what's up?"
A deep, cold voice sounded from behind.
Wen Jiayue and Shen Fuyou were both startled and looked up at Shen Fuhan, who had appeared beside them at some point.
Shen Fuhan's gaze swept across their faces.
Wen Jiayue looked confused, and seemed a little guilty.
Shen Fuyou's face turned completely red, and she was so flustered that she didn't know what to do with her hands and feet.
“It’s nothing,” he stood up. “Brother, I was just chatting with my sister-in-law.”
Shen Fuhan looked at his fourth brother, who was almost as tall as him. His eyes were downcast, and he looked like he had done something wrong.
Suddenly, it seemed as if I saw my second brother.
Brothers naturally resemble each other to some extent.
Among the brothers, the fourth and second brothers were the most alike, only their personalities were different.
The fourth brother is lively and clever, and likes to play with knives and guns; the second brother is quiet and simple, and likes poetry and songs.
Every time he looked at Shen Fuyou, he would think of his younger brother who had died young, so he always indulged him.
Shen Fuyou wanted to move out, and although it was unreasonable, he agreed.
Shen Fuyou wanted to go to Jinzhou to do business, and although he didn't tell him the truth, he still agreed.
Shen Fuyou wanted to move back in, and even though he knew what Shen Fuyou was up to, he still agreed.
But Shen Fuyou kept crossing the line, making it impossible for him to tolerate it.
Shen Fuhan clenched his fists and said restrainedly, "After the palace banquet, go to the study and wait for me. I have something to ask you."
“But…” Shen Fuyou hesitated, “I have something to do, how about tomorrow?”
"what's up?"
Shen Fu hesitated for a moment, then said guiltily, "Of course I'm going to sleep, I'm so sleepy."
To prove he was telling the truth, he yawned.
Shen Fuhan sneered, too lazy to expose him.
“It seems I’ve been too lenient with you,” he said coldly. “If you’re sleepy, go wait outside the palace. Come back when you’re sober.”
Having not seen his elder brother so stern in a long time, Shen Fuyou was immediately startled.
"Alright, alright, I'll go to the study after we get back to the manor."
Right now, my brother's affairs are more important. It's not too late to see Yan'er tomorrow.
Seeing that he had agreed, Shen Fuhan looked at Wen Jiayue.
"Come here too."
Wen Jiayue was taken aback: "Me?"
Shen Fuhan asked calmly, "You have something to say too?"
“I’m fine,” Wen Jiayue said hesitantly, “but shouldn’t you be going to the Buddhist temple tonight?”
Shen Fuhan always spent the last day of every month in the Buddhist hall, even on New Year's Eve, without fail.
She had been secretly hoping that this would be considered sleeping in separate rooms, and perhaps he would still dream about his past life.
“I have something more important to do tonight,” Shen Fuhan said, staring intently at her. “I’m not going.”
Wen Jiayue felt a little regretful; did she have to wait another month?
Her disappointment was written on her face, and Shen Fuhan slowly looked away.
Just then, the old lady returned.
"Why are you all just standing there like idiots?" the old lady said with concern. "Sit down, sit down, don't you know how to rest for a while?"
Shen Fuhan and Shen Fuyou returned to their positions.
The elder brother exuded a chill, and Shen Fuyou quickly moved to the side.
Shen Fuhan glanced at him: "What are you feeling guilty about? Sit back down."
He reluctantly moved over, looking completely bewildered, and asked, "Why am I feeling guilty?"
Shen Fuhan said coldly, "You sound guilty just saying that."
The two brothers suddenly started arguing, and the old lady quickly said, "You are brothers, what's there to argue about?"
She changed the subject, saying, "Fuhan, what did the Emperor want to see you about this time?"
Shen Fuhan said indifferently, "It's nothing, Grandmother, you don't need to worry about it."
Wen Jiayue remained silent, pondering for a moment, and suddenly understood.
Could Shen Fuhan mistakenly believe that there is something improper between her and her fourth brother?
