Chapter 230 Such a beautiful time and scenery
Chapter 230 Such a beautiful time and scenery
At 3:15 PM, the opera troupe entered the mansion.
The old lady sat down under the stage early, waiting to listen to the opera.
Wen Jiayue and Shen Fuhan naturally accompanied them.
Shen Funian didn't like to hear this and dozed off with her chin in her hand. She was caught by the old lady and given a scolding.
"With her back hunched and stooped, she doesn't look like a proper young lady at all!"
Shen Funian replied lazily, "I was never a lady from a prominent family."
She had never seen a young lady from a prominent family in Chang'an elope with someone before; this was truly the first time in history that such a thing had happened.
Seeing that her granddaughter was becoming increasingly disobedient, the old lady glared at her, but there was nothing she could do.
Forget it, it's a great day, I won't argue with her.
The old lady turned her head away, out of sight, out of mind.
Shen Funian pouted and whispered to Wen Jiayue, "So annoying."
Wen Jiayue held Zhao Zhao, who was watching with great interest, and whispered, "Don't say anything, or Grandmother might hear you."
Saying these things will only cause trouble and will not do any good.
"It's alright, the banging and clanging on stage never stopped," Shen Funian sighed, "It's so noisy."
It's a pity I can't leave early. In previous years, I would sit with my grandmother for the whole show, for a full two hours!
Shen Funian's head was spinning just thinking about it.
She had never been so confrontational with her grandmother before, so she could sit patiently, but now she just wanted to go back to sleep.
Unfortunately, her older brother is still here, so she can't run away even if she wants to.
After thinking for a moment, Shen Funian discussed with Wen Jiayue, "Can the moon-viewing banquet be held earlier?"
Wen Jiayue nodded: "Everything is ready, of course, what's wrong?"
"I want to finish quickly so I don't waste time here."
After speaking, Shen Funian sat down in the empty seat next to Shen Fuhan to discuss it with him.
"Brother, could we have dinner earlier tonight?"
Shen Fuhan glanced at her: "No, stay put."
“I don’t want to leave,” Shen Funian retorted immediately, though her voice lacked conviction.
Shen Fuhan asked, "What exactly do you want to do?"
Shen Funian dared not tell the truth to her elder brother. After holding it in for a long time, she finally came up with an excuse.
“In previous Mid-Autumn Festivals, we would finish our meal around 9 PM, and the festivities outside would have ended. I thought it would be better to have our meal earlier so that you and your sister-in-law could go for a stroll in the streets. Such a beautiful time and place should not be wasted.”
Shen Fuhan remained silent.
Seeing that he did not immediately refuse, Shen Funian knew that there was hope.
"Brother, think about it again. I'm going back to my seat now."
Back beside Wen Jiayue, Shen Funian asked, "Sister-in-law, would you like to go out and have a look around? It's so lively outside."
Wen Jiayue shook her head, not very interested.
Upon hearing this, Shen Funian asked seriously, "Sister-in-law, am I your close confidante?"
“Of course,” Wen Jiayue asked curiously, “Why do you ask that?”
"Since we're so close, shouldn't you help your best friend in need?"
Wen Jiayue felt that she had dug a pit for her to fall into, and cautiously asked, "What exactly do you want to do?"
Shen Funian muttered softly, "No wonder you're husband and wife, the tone you used when you said that was exactly like my older brother's."
It was too noisy around her, and Wen Jiayue didn't hear clearly. She asked in confusion, "What do you mean, exactly the same?"
"It's nothing, it's nothing," Shen Funian brought the topic back to the main point, "Why don't you go out and have some fun with my older brother? It'll be a good opportunity for you to bond, and I can go back and rest earlier."
Wen Jiayue frowned and said, "I don't want to go."
Spending all day with Shen Fuhan is boring enough, and having to go out with him is even worse than not going at all.
She still remembered that on the way to Yuzhou last time, she and Shen Fuhan passed through a town and went shopping together.
Aside from briefly stopping at the candied hawthorn and jewelry stalls, I was constantly walking, and my legs were almost giving out.
She said she absolutely wouldn't go this time.
Shen Funian asked, "Don't you want to go out with my older brother?"
Wen Jiayue nodded, and fearing that she would keep asking questions, she simply started to talk about her experiences in town.
Little did they know, Shen Fuhan, who was on the side, had excellent hearing and had already overheard most of their conversation.
He seemed to understand something; no wonder she wanted to go back after only fifteen minutes that day.
Shen Fuhan left quietly.
Shen Fuyou, who had been keeping a close eye on his movements, suddenly relaxed.
Because of what happened this morning, he didn't dare to breathe loudly just now.
He didn't remember a single word of what was sung on stage or what his sister-in-law and third sister were saying.
Now that his older brother had finally left, he curiously interjected, "What were you talking about?"
“Children shouldn’t interrupt when adults are talking,” Shen Funian waved her hand dismissively. “Sister-in-law, please continue.”
Shen Fuyou pouted and listlessly grabbed Shen Chengyao, who was running around the field.
"Fourth Uncle," Shen Chengyao's chubby face was flushed, and he spoke slowly and deliberately, "Why did you stop me?"
"Let's see if you have any muscles in your arms," Shen Fuyou pressed them and said with satisfaction, "Not bad, quite effective."
A while ago, he was practicing martial arts in the courtyard when Shen Chengyao came over to watch. After watching, he insisted that he teach him.
He didn't want to agree, but he was most afraid of children crying, and Shen Chengyao seemed to be just acting on a whim, so he casually agreed.
I didn't expect that my little nephew would stick to it for almost two months. He comes to him to practice martial arts whenever he has free time, and he is quite diligent.
Upon hearing this, Shen Chengyao grinned, but then quickly shushed him.
"Don't let my mother hear this!"
He dared not let his mother know that he was secretly practicing martial arts with his fourth uncle, otherwise his mother would definitely beat him.
Shen Fuyou chuckled, determined to tease him with a few more words. He caught a glimpse of his elder brother returning and quickly sat up straight.
Shen Funian quickly asked, "Big brother, where did you go just now?"
She placed all her hopes on her eldest brother, gazing at him earnestly.
Shen Fuhan paused for a moment, then said calmly, "Change your clothes."
Shen Funian sighed resentfully; she had thought she had gone to instruct the servants to move the moon-viewing banquet forward.
Wen Jiayue breathed a sigh of relief: "You should just sit still. Zhao Zhao is more patient than you."
After what seemed like an eternity, the final scene finally arrived.
Shen Funian couldn't laugh. This last match was almost half an hour long, and she still had to suffer for so long.
However, after waiting for a long time, no one came up on stage.
The old lady sent someone to urge him on, only to learn that the star performer had suddenly collapsed from exhaustion after several performances.
Shen Funian's eyes lit up; it was like heaven was helping him!
She quickly said, "Grandmother, it's getting late. Why don't you let the opera troupe go home and rest?"
The old lady insisted on waiting for a while, but when she saw that the person still hadn't woken up, she had no choice but to give up.
Wen Jiayue looked at Shen Fuhan suspiciously. Could it be that he was behind this?
"Why are you looking at me?" Shen Fuhan asked calmly.
Wen Jiayue suddenly realized she was overthinking things; he definitely wouldn't do such a thing.
She shook her head and went to instruct the servants to serve the dishes.
