Chapter 386 Xuanmei's Roommate
Chapter 386 Xuanmei's Roommate
In the end, Xuanmei still refused. She didn't want to give Fang Shijie the wrong impression and make him misunderstand that she was interested in him.
Fang Shijie wasn't ugly; he had thick eyebrows, big eyes, and was tall and slender, but he wasn't Xuanmei's type.
Since Xuanmei wanted to go back to the dormitory to cook, Fang Shijie didn't insist and carried her back.
Fang Shijie had originally planned to treat her to a meal, then take a walk and chat while pushing her bicycle, but now it seems that the plan has fallen through.
The two remained silent on the way back until they entered the courtyard, at which point Xuanmei finally said thank you.
Fang Shijie smiled and said, "Don't be so polite. We're neighbors, living in the same courtyard. If you need any help in the future, just let me know."
Xuanmei thanked her again and went back to her dormitory to start cooking.
Fang Shijie is a nice person. He often helps her with chores. For example, last time when Xuanmei was washing the bed sheets, Fang Shijie even offered to help wring out the water!
Xuanmei had no feelings for him, so she always avoided him. She tried her best not to bother others with anything, but Fang Shijie was quick to notice her. Whenever Xuanmei needed help, he would always be the first to rush over and lend a hand.
Xuanmei's dormitory had two bunk beds. She slept in one by herself, while the two girls who came together shared one.
Xuanmei lay down on the lower part of the bed, leaving the upper part as a place to put her things. There was also a writing desk and a square table in the room. The square table was where they ate.
Inside the house, against the south wall, there is a small stove, with a marble slab supported by square cement blocks underneath. It's a simple stove setup.
There's a small electric cooker on the stove, and a power outlet on the wall. I usually use this to heat up food, cook instant noodles, and cook regular noodles.
Xuanmei turned on the power, poured in a large bowl of water, and started boiling it. After the water started boiling, she cracked an egg into the pot.
She added a small amount of noodles, followed by salt, when the eggs were almost cooked. After a while, the noodles were cooked, so she turned off the heat, ladled them out, and prepared to eat.
Xuanmei placed the bowl on the square table, with a jar of chili sauce and a packet of pickled kelp strips in front of her.
She picked out the noodles and put them in a separate empty plate, added chili sauce and a sausage, and began to eat.
"Slurp slurp... huff huff" The meal was devoured in no time.
Xuanmei let out a burp and started washing the dishes and pots. Just then, the other two girls in the dormitory returned.
They had already finished eating at a street stall outside, and when they came back, they even packed a few kebabs for Xuanmei.
Xuanmei waved her hand in refusal, saying she was already full. One of the girls, Bian Ningxia, with dark skin and a slender build, held a skewer of grilled chicken wings under Xuanmei's nose, the enticing aroma filling her nostrils.
Although Xuanmei had eaten her fill, her tongue still involuntarily produced saliva.
Another thin and short girl, Gong Rubin, pushed the skewer in Bian Ningxia's hand towards Xuan Mei's mouth. This time, Xuan Mei had no choice but to eat it even if she didn't want to.
Seeing her roommate's enthusiasm, Xuanmei accepted the food with a wry smile. She took a small bite, and after just one bite, she couldn't stop eating.
With one bite, the crispy on the outside and tender on the inside chicken wing meat melts in your mouth, and the aroma of cumin and meat blends together instantly fills the air.
Her roommates laughed as they watched her eat with great satisfaction.
"Isn't it delicious? We spent a long time picking this street stall." Bian Ningxia said proudly.
Xuanmei chewed and mumbled, "It's so delicious, thank you."
Gong Rubin said with a smile, "Why are you being so polite with us? We'll always think of you when we have something delicious to eat."
After finishing the barbecue skewers, Xuanmei felt her stomach was almost full. She leaned back in her chair and gently rubbed her stomach.
Just then, there was a knock on the dormitory door. Bian Ningxia ran to open it, and it was Fang Shijie.
He was holding a thermal lunchbox. "My mom made dumplings and asked me to bring some over." Xuanmei was a little embarrassed; she had just finished eating kebabs and now she had to deal with dumplings.
Fang Shijie's roommates warmly accepted the lunchbox and pulled him to sit down and eat with them. Xuanmei watched this scene, feeling a mix of emotions, unsure how to face Fang Shijie.
The two girls had finished eating, but they only tasted one dumpling as a token gesture, and put the rest on a plate, saying they would reheat it for breakfast the next morning.
Bian Ningxia handed the skewers in her hand to Fang Shijie, who didn't stand on ceremony at all. He took a big bite and his eyes lit up immediately.
He gave a thumbs-up and mumbled a praise, "This...it's so delicious, isn't it!"
Bian Ningxia glanced at the remaining skewers in her hand and stuffed them all into Fang Shijie's hands. These things wouldn't taste good once they got cold; Fang Shijie should finish them off quickly.
Fang Shijie was taken aback and forced to accept the skewers. He stared blankly for a few seconds, completely bewildered.
The three girls in the dormitory burst into laughter at Fang Shijie's comical antics. The dormitory was filled with laughter.
Meanwhile, Yunya returned to her bedroom and didn't go downstairs again. When it was time to eat, Sun Limei brought her the food.
Yunya was very grateful for this. Although the two of them couldn't stand each other and often argued, their family would still step forward to help when they really needed it.
Yunya treats her family the same way; if anything happens to them, Yunya will lend a helping hand.
Just like how she gave all the money she worked so hard to earn to her parents to help with household expenses.
In her heart, "family" is a whole. Internal strife (minor family conflicts) is inevitable, but when faced with external enemies, everyone will unite against them.
Kong Xiujuan didn't bother Yunya anymore. Since she was already injured, she should let her take good care of herself.
After finishing her meal, she was still busy taking stock of the tools she had prepared to sell breakfast.
During the day, she also went to her second sister's house to tell her that she was going to sell breakfast. She saw that her second sister was also idle at home and bored, so why didn't the two of them work together and have an extra income?
Kong Xiuzhen agreed without hesitation. She had been idle at home for half a year, and her older sister was asking her to earn money together, so how could she not agree?
After the two agreed, Kong Xiuzhen went to her elder sister's house after lunch to settle the accounts with her.
Holding the bill, I checked the tables, stools, stoves, charcoal, steamers, and other items I had bought...
Kong Xiuzhen didn't get home until 5 p.m. After arriving home, she told her husband, Zhang Jiefang, about what had happened.
Zhang Jiefang also agreed to his wife and older sister going into business together. After all, they could earn money to supplement their household income.
That night, Kong Xiujuan lay in bed to rest. She was tired and sleepy after a busy day, and soon fell asleep.
Sun Zitao went to bed after watching TV. When he got back to the bedroom, he saw his wife fast asleep, so tired that she was snoring.
His wife never snores, so it seems she was really exhausted this time. He quietly took off his shoes and clothes, lay down, and fell asleep in about 5 minutes.
