Chapter 538 Qin Fang Injured
Chapter 538 Qin Fang Injured
"Quick! Carry him to Doctor Qian's courtyard!" Chu Ruohan decided immediately. "Send someone to wake Doctor Qian up right away! Tell him it's a matter of life and death!"
As she spoke, she lifted her skirt and quickly walked out.
Yu Ling staggered behind, her face full of worry, her eyes fixed on the front yard.
Chu Ruohan saw it all and understood, but she had no time to say anything.
In the open space in the front yard, several servants were frantically lifting a bloodied figure off a makeshift wooden plank.
The man was Qin Fang. His clothes were soaked in blood, and he had many deep wounds that exposed bone. His face was as white as paper, his eyes were closed, and his breath was so weak that it was almost imperceptible.
"Qin Fang!" Yu Ling exclaimed in shock, rushing forward but not daring to touch him. She could only stand helplessly to the side, tears streaming down her face.
Chu Ruohan quickly stepped forward and checked Qin Fang's breath. Although it was weak, there was still a trace of life.
She breathed a slight sigh of relief and immediately ordered those around her, "Be quiet! Quickly take it to Doctor Qian!"
No one dared to delay, and they carefully carried Qin Fang, hurrying towards Doctor Qian's courtyard.
Chu Ruohan stared at the shocking bloodstain on the ground, her pretty face frosty, a blazing fire of anger burning in her eyes.
"These bandits have become too arrogant!"
Gu Junze walked to her side, put his arm around her slightly cool shoulder, and his deep eyes were icy cold.
"The government couldn't possibly be unaware of the rampant activities of these bandits."
He looked at the blood-stained path leading to Doctor Qian's courtyard, his tone chilling, "Don't worry, I will get to the bottom of this and bring them all to justice."
Chu Ruohan nodded, but her mind was entirely focused on Qin Fang.
Dr. Qian's courtyard was brightly lit.
The strong smell of blood mixed with the smell of herbs was enough to make one want to vomit.
Dr. Qian was woken from his sleep and was now sweating profusely as he treated Qin Fang's wounds, constantly instructing the servants to boil water, fetch scissors, and get strong liquor.
Chu Ruohan and Gu Junze stood outside the door and did not go in to disturb them.
The night breeze was cool, but it couldn't dispel the heavy atmosphere.
Yu Ling knelt by the threshold, her eyes fixed on the blood-soaked figure inside the room, her hands tightly clasped together, her knuckles white.
Her lips were bloodless from being bitten so hard, and her tears had long since dried up, leaving only a silent plea.
No one could sleep that night.
For three whole days, Qin Fang remained in a coma, suffering from a persistent high fever, and teetering on the brink of death several times.
Yu Ling, too, stayed by his side for three days and three nights without taking off her clothes.
She stubbornly refused to leave his side, personally wiping his body and feeding him medicine spoonful by spoonful.
The once beautiful girl became haggard and thin in just a few days, her chin even becoming pointed.
On the evening of the third day, Qin Fang's finger finally twitched.
He slowly opened his heavy eyelids, and the first thing he saw in his blurry vision was Yu Ling's face, which was full of haggardness.
"Water..." His throat was so dry it felt like it was on fire, and his voice was so hoarse it was almost inaudible.
"You're awake!" Yu Ling exclaimed with joy and surprise. She quickly poured some warm water and carefully fed him with a small spoon. "You're finally awake!"
The news quickly reached the main campus.
When Chu Ruohan and Gu Junze arrived, Qin Fang was already able to sit up with his head on the pillow.
Upon seeing the two of them, he struggled to get out of bed to pay his respects, but Gu Junze stopped him by raising his hand.
"Lie down properly." Gu Junze's voice left no room for argument. "You are injured now."
Panting, Qin Fang recounted the events in broken sentences, his eyes filled with the fear of surviving a disaster and boundless hatred.
The caravan reached Black Wind Ridge, a vital route on the official road. Although there were petty thieves there, they were usually harmless.
But on that day, they encountered a group of well-trained and ruthless bandits. There were no fewer than a hundred of them, all masked, wielding sharp weapons, and their attacks were vicious and deadly, not for robbery, but rather a simple massacre.
“They…they killed anyone they saw. The guards fought desperately, but they were no match for them…” Qin Fang’s eyes reddened and his voice choked as he spoke. “My brothers fell one by one…I was pushed down the hillside by the captain and only survived because of it…”
Upon hearing this, Gu Junze's face darkened, and a chilling aura emanated from him.
"Well-trained, just for killing?" He sneered. "What a bandit!"
He turned around and ordered his personal guards in a deep voice, "Pass down the order: Gu Cheng'an and General Shi will lead a team to suppress the bandits!"
"Yes!" The guard accepted the order and left.
Gu Junze then looked at Qin Fang, his tone softening: "Focus on recovering. I'll avenge you."
Chu Ruohan walked to the bedside, looked at Yu Ling's pale face, and said softly, "Yu Ling, there are servants watching over you here. You haven't slept for three days. Go and rest first."
Yu Ling shook her head, her gaze still fixed on Qin Fang, her voice hoarse but firm: "Madam, I'm not tired. I'll rest when he... when he's feeling better."
Chu Ruohan sighed softly, and seeing the stubbornness in her eyes, she understood.
Qin Fang is a good kid, honest and reliable.
It's just a pity...
She didn't press the matter further, but gently advised, "Then you should also take care of yourself. Have the kitchen prepare some soup for you and send it over."
She turned to Qin Fang and said, "Take good care of your injuries."
After saying that, he left with Gu Junze.
Once the door was closed, the room returned to silence.
Qin Fang's gaze fell on Yu Ling, and his lips moved as if he wanted to say something.
He slowly raised his uninjured left hand, which had been clenched into a fist ever since he was carried back, and no one could pry it open.
At this moment, he painstakingly opened his clenched fist, one finger at a time.
In his palm lay a small wooden butterfly hairpin.
The hairpin is crudely carved, clearly the work of a novice. The wood is the most common peach wood, and one of the wing-shaped feet is even stained with blood, turning it dark red.
Yu Ling was stunned.
She then understood why he had been unconscious for the past three days, yet his hands were clenched so tightly—he was holding this very thing.
"This is……"
“Grandma… passed away before the New Year.” Qin Fang looked at her, deep sadness welling up in his eyes.
"Before she left, she held my hand and told me to find a good girl, live a good life, and not always be alone."
Yu Ling's heart skipped a beat, and her nose stung with tears.
Qin Fang's gaze was burning and sincere. He used all his strength to push the rough wooden hairpin forward.
"This is... something I wanted to give you when I came back..."
“Miss Yuling,” he mustered the greatest courage of his life and said clearly, word by word, “the person Grandma asked me to find, I think, is you.”
"Could you...give me a chance?"
