Chapter 38 Chaos's Fall, The Hunt
Chapter 38 Chaos's Fall, The Hunt
Tick, tick.
Dark blood rolled down Chaos's neck and onto the ground. He turned his head with difficulty and looked at the people sitting in the audience.
No one moved. They watched Chaos's dying posture in silence, awaiting the whale-like frenzy of feeding.
"I do not recommend that you continue this operation, Mr. Chaos. We have many people lying in ambush."
Layton offered a well-intentioned reminder, but only earned a furious glare from Chaos. He shrugged and ignored him.
"And you?"
Chaos turned to the other heirs, his voice whistling, but still slow and hoarse.
He was breathing heavily, and amidst the pain of his neck being pierced, he saw Claude's reaction.
Claude shrugged, scratched his head, and kept making small movements before finally stopping.
He began in a helpless tone:
"Big brother, we're not kids anymore, right?"
"You can't possibly have to manage everything, can you?"
Chaos then turned to Chasher and Orpheus, the two women.
The old nanny wore a kind smile, while Orpheus's face showed undisguised contempt.
It was as if she had long been fed up with him getting in her way.
And then, finally, Chaos realized.
Then, an involuntary self-mockery arose in my mind.
Look, Chaos, this is what you've been protecting all along. They just find you annoying.
This is the reward he received: he became a stumbling block.
It's absolutely ridiculous!
He raised his head, and for a moment, a hint of fear appeared on Orpheus's face, but Chaos merely gave him a cold glance.
Then, their attention turned to Stoffey.
Stoffey's face was filled with astonishment as he looked at Chaos, his body still trembling slightly, his gaze occasionally sweeping over Layton and the other heirs.
Noticing Chaos's gaze, Stoffy gave him a look, but Chaos simply shook his head.
"Storfy, there's no need for this. Let's go. My biggest regret is not yelling at you and getting rid of you that day."
Chaos shook his head and muttered to himself:
"I thought you would be the one to destroy all of this, because your hatred for me is understandable. But I never imagined that someone would hate me even more than you do."
"I originally thought that scolding you and making you leave would protect you. Now it seems I was overthinking it."
He can't protect anyone.
Even himself.
Stoffey's body jerked violently, but in the end, he made no further movement and simply stood there calmly.
"Mr. Chaos, the matter of the will is not over yet, and no one can leave now."
Layton raised his hand expressionlessly, a gesture that earned him a mocking smile from Chaos.
"What are you still talking to me about, Layton?"
Chaos tapped the table with the last of his strength, his voice hoarse.
"Your share of the inheritance, sir. This mansion."
Layton remained expressionless, but paused and emphasized.
"Also, you have the key to the basement, right?"
Chaos chuckled twice upon hearing this, thick black blood still trickling down his neck. He laboriously reached for his waist and pulled out a key to a secret chamber.
For a moment, Layton's breath hitched.
This is the key to the basement!
He almost instinctively reached out his hand, but Chaos simply held up the key without making any movement.
Just as Layton's hand was about to reach the key, he suddenly pulled back and clenched the key into his fist.
Layton's face darkened, but before he could say anything, Chaos's fist suddenly clenched and came straight at him!
Punch!
The glasses frame fell to the ground in an instant, leaving Layton stunned. Chaos roared as he stood up and punched Layton again!
Then, he loosened his grip and threw the key straight out, landing precisely in front of Bai Xi.
Bai Xiren was dumbfounded.
Damn it, you guys were fighting perfectly fine, what's the meaning of framing me?
"Let's go, Bai, and all of you, let's go!"
Chaos rubbed his fists, ignoring the worsening wound on his neck, and roared:
"I'm going to settle this bastard's score with me!"
Thus, all etiquette, all restraint, and all dignity were abandoned!
Standing here is nothing more than a trapped beast with nothing!
But at the last moment, Bai Xi saw Chaos's face turn around and the bitterness in his eyes.
He whispered again:
"Please go see Alice for me. I... am still a nobody after all."
Bai Xi was only stunned for a moment before he felt Stoffey fleeing from his side. Before he could react, he understood why Stoffey was so fast.
Because there was a gunshot!
But Bai Xi was stunned by the hot potato in her hand.
He felt like he had eight hundred red dots all over his body!
This room is full of people lying in ambush for Chaos. What the hell am I supposed to fight with?!
But he couldn't refuse this hot potato. He did need to go to the basement again. If he really gave it to Layton, Bai Xi suspected that his secret group was finished.
For a moment, Bai Xi even felt an urge to vomit blood.
But he still got up without hesitation and fled!
A gunshot rang out, but it wasn't aimed at Bai Xi. Then, Bai Xi heard Layton's disheveled roar:
"Shoot! You bunch of useless trash! Shoot!"
"Kill this old bastard! Are they all just freeloaders?!"
Then, a series of gunshots rang out, leaving countless bullet holes throughout the hall. Bai Xi glanced out of the corner of his eye and saw the dozen or so armed infiltrators, his scalp tingling.
Is this some kind of exaggeration, officer?
Chaos, with a final roar, headbutted Layton, staining him with black blood.
But the dozen or so bullet holes in his body gradually eroded his senses.
Darkness descended, enveloping everything.
Black blood seeped into the earth, as if this were the demise of Chaos.
Bai Xi withdrew his gaze and ran forward at top speed, escaping the hall before anyone could react.
But countless questions still lingered in his mind. In particular, Chaos's black blood clots.
Meanwhile, inside the hall, Chaos's mind went blank, and he collapsed.
Those who are devoted to their families will ultimately die because of their families.
Layton, with a gloomy expression, got up from the ground, looked around at the three remaining heirs and the thugs that everyone had put together.
In an instant, his face contorted in a ferocious expression.
"What are you still standing there for?!"
He roared, "Get out there and chase after them, all of you!"
"Bring that Stoffey guy back! And get the key from White's hand! Go get it!"
"Go and bring those two back to me!"
