Chapter 3 Rescue
Chapter 3 Rescue
"Damn it!" Vasily cursed, "An enemy ambush!"
Lu Ye lay on the ground, his heart pounding.
Those dozen or so bullets just now barely grazed his scalp; if Vasily hadn't pulled him up, he would be a corpse by now.
"Three o'clock, behind the bushes!" Vasily lowered his voice. "At least five people, their firepower is unknown."
Lu Ye swallowed hard. He was just cannon fodder now, and even Vasily could see that his marksmanship was terrible.
"What should we do?" he asked in a low voice.
"Wait." Vasily's eyes were fixed on the front. "Wait for them to come out first."
The woods were eerily quiet, with only the rustling of leaves in the wind and the occasional muffled boom of artillery fire in the distance.
"Hua-zai," Vasily suddenly spoke, his voice low, "what happened to you during those few minutes in the trenches?"
Lu Ye's back stiffened.
"I told you, it was luck!"
"Luck allows you to change magazines with one hand??" Vasily sneered. "Like turning your terrible marksmanship into a sharpshooter? I've served in the army for eight years and I've never seen such luck."
"I..." Lu Ye opened his mouth, but didn't know how to explain.
He could feel Vasily's gun barrel subtly tilting towards him.
The polar bear veteran suspected him, and it was the kind of suspicion that could lead to a gunshot at any moment.
But I can't talk about things related to the system; no one would believe me anyway.
"Forget it," Vasily suddenly said. "Let's talk about that when we get out of here alive. For now, follow my orders."
He pointed to a patch of bushes on the left: "You go around there and draw their fire. I'll flank you from the right."
"What?!" Lu Ye's eyes widened. "I'm going to draw their fire?"
"Your marksmanship is terrible, but you're pretty fast." Vasily said expressionlessly, paused, and continued with a cold look in his eyes, "And if you have any problems, it's no loss if you die."
Lu Ye gritted his teeth.
That bastard is testing him, using him as bait. But if he refuses, Vasily might shoot right now. And now they can only rely on him to break through the enemy's encirclement.
"Okay." Lu Ye slowly got up, gripping the rifle in his hand tightly. He had no other choice now.
"Count to three, then begin." Vasily said, crouching low as he moved to the right. "Remember, once you start running, don't stop; follow an S-shaped route."
Lu Ye took a deep breath and counted silently in his mind. Suddenly, he darted out from behind the cover and ran wildly towards the bushes on his left.
"Da da da!"
Gunshots rang out instantly, bullets followed Lu Ye's footsteps, and then exploded in the mud, creating small craters.
He desperately changed direction, his lungs felt like they were about to explode, but his legs felt lighter than usual. Sure enough, adding points to agility was the right thing to do; running fast is the key.
As Lu Ye ran, he raised his gun in his right hand and fired wildly in the direction of the gunfire.
The bullet flew off somewhere unknown, but it successfully drew the enemy's attention.
Suddenly, a burst of gunfire came from the right, and then the gunfire aimed at Lu Ye decreased by more than half. Lu Ye took the opportunity to rush into the bushes, panting heavily.

The system notification startled him for a moment, and then he felt a burning pain in his right arm.
"Damn!" He looked down at the wound, where blood was trickling down his sleeve.
Lu Ye leaned against the bushes and took the opportunity to quickly turn around and observe the situation.
Two enemy soldiers were firing at him from directly behind, while three others were firing at his side, which should be Vasily's position.
Vasily continued to fight back, but seemed to be bogged down, with gunfire coming in thick and fast, and neither dared to make a move.
"Wah-zai! Run to the right! There's a cliff there, jump!" Vasily's shout came from the left rear, his tone tinged with anxiety. "It's a swamp below, you won't die!"
Lu Ye gritted his teeth and poked his head out of the bushes again.
There was indeed a low-lying, shadowy area to his right, but it was at least fifty meters away. And in the middle was an open field with no cover whatsoever.
"Damn it! Go for it! Run!"
Lu Ye gritted his teeth and suddenly darted out!
Another volley of bullets landed at his feet: thirty, twenty, ten.
Lu Ye dared not linger for even a moment. Just as he was about to reach the edge of the cliff, a loud bang exploded from his right!
The blast wave sent him flying, crashing heavily onto the edge of the cliff.
Lu Ye's ears were ringing, and his vision was blurry.
He turned his head with difficulty and saw Vasily rushing out of the bushes not far away, half of his body covered in blood.
"Jump!"
Vasily roared as he fired wildly at the pursuing enemy troops.
Without hesitation, Lu Ye rolled off the cliff.
My body lost weight in the air, and then "plop" I crashed into the cold mud.
Muddy water filled his nose and mouth. He struggled desperately to his feet, grabbed a tree root, and pulled himself out of the swamp.
Gunfire continued above the cliff.
"Vasily!" Lu Ye shouted, looking up.
no respond.
There were only intermittent gunshots, followed by a few muffled thuds, like someone fighting in the mud.
Lu Ye's heart clenched.
Although that polar bear guy was suspicious of him and even made him draw fire, he was indeed covering for him just now.
Moreover, if Vasily dies, he won't be able to get out of this no-man's-land alone.
"Damn it!" Lu Ye cursed, grabbing onto the tree roots at the bottom of the cliff and starting to climb up.
The cliff wasn't high, only three or four meters, but the mud soaked him to the bone, making each step extremely difficult.
By the time he climbed up, the battle was over.
He saw Vasily lying on his back on the ground, his chest heaving violently, and a large patch of soil beneath him was soaked with blood.
Three enemy soldiers fell around him; one had his throat slit with a dagger, while the other two died from gunshot wounds.
"Vasily!" Lu Ye rushed over, trying his best to control his trembling hands, and began to check Vasily's injuries.
He was shot in the left abdomen, and blood was gushing out.
A large chunk of flesh was torn off his right leg by shrapnel, and the bone was faintly visible.
The most fatal wound was to his chest; a bullet pierced his lung, and with each breath Vasily took, more blood foam spilled from the corner of his mouth.
"You...why did you come back?" Vasily struggled to open his eyes, his voice hoarse like a broken bellows, "Run!"
"Shut up." Lu Ye's mind raced as he considered, "Should I use it or not?"

"Yes! We must be saved!"
Lu Ye opened the first aid kit, inside which were neatly arranged suture needles, hemostatic powder, bandages, a small scalpel, and a transparent syringe.
[A powerful hemostatic agent: relieves pain, quickly stops bleeding, and promotes wound healing]
Without hesitation, he tore open Vasily's clothes, poured the hemostatic powder onto the wound on his abdomen, and then wrapped it with a bandage several times before tightening it.
Then he grabbed the syringe, hesitated for a moment, glanced at Vasily's thigh, and plunged it in.
"Ugh," Vasily groaned, his eyes widening suddenly. "What are you doing!"
"I'll save you." Lu Ye didn't even look up. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his turbulent emotions and control his trembling hands.
He removed the shrapnel from his leg with a small scalpel.
"Don't move, bear with it. I've only ever sewed clothes at home, never people." As he spoke, the suture needle in Lu Ye's hand had already pierced the first piece of flesh.
One stitch, two stitches, three stitches
After finally finishing the stitching, they bandaged it up.
The whole process took less than ten minutes, but Lu Ye's back was completely soaked with sweat and he was exhausted.
