Chapter 43 The Plan Has Changed
Chapter 43 The Plan Has Changed
He immediately took off the tactical terminal from his back and pulled out the data cable to plug into the physical interface of the walkie-talkie.
Hundreds or even thousands of lines of rapidly scrolling green cracking code instantly popped up on the screen.
"Boss, we've got the communication equipment. Give me three minutes to perform low-level frequency hijacking. If we succeed, the entire marshalling yard's scheduling commands will be transparent to us!"
Eugene's fingers flew across the keyboard as he blindly typed commands.
"Hurry up." Yuri's gaze was fixed on the depths of the fog, then he called out in the squad channel, "Lu, the entrance has been breached, enter the defense zone!"
"Received. Moving."
Lu Ye picked up the SVCh sniper rifle with one hand, donned a special ghillie suit, and leaped down from the hill.
"Lu, your sniping skills are even better than I expected!" Yuri's praising voice rang in my ears.
A moment later, Lu Ye, wearing an infrared-protective ghillie suit, quietly slipped through a gap in the barbed wire and stood beside Yuri.
At this moment, Eugene unplugged the data cable connected to the enemy's walkie-talkie.
"Decoding complete." Eugene looked up, his fingers flying across the keyboard. "The frequency band has been synchronized to your tactical headsets, and I have the underlying access control."
As soon as the words were spoken, a slight static noise came through the tactical headsets of all six people, followed by a clear voice.
"Attention all units, this is the command center. According to reports from the meteorological department and outposts, a large area of dense fog has appeared around the camp."
"The fog is expected to gradually dissipate in two hours. During this time, all outer perimeter posts should increase their vigilance and closely monitor movements around the defense zone! All positions, please report the situation now!"
Yuri immediately made a gesture, and everyone half-squatted in place, holding their breath.
"Eastern flank position is safe!"
"No abnormalities found in the north-facing factory building!"
Eugene pulled a small module from his tactical vest, connected it to the communication terminal, and gave Yuri an "OK" sign.
Eugene pressed the call button, and a static sound immediately came through the headset.
He lowered his voice and replied in fluent Ukrainian: "West side...nothing unusual...very foggy!"
The specially processed audio has a grainy and discontinuous feel, making it impossible to distinguish the timbre.
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the command center, as if they were trying to identify the signal.
"Received. The sentry on the west side, remain vigilant and do not leave your posts without authorization," the voice from the command center came again.
"Understood," Eugene replied, his voice still gruff.
After finishing, Eugene let out a long sigh of relief.
Yuri patted Eugene on the shoulder, turned to look at Lu Ye, pointed to the fifteen-meter-high abandoned water tower above, and waved vigorously upwards.
Lu Ye nodded.
He slung the SVCh sniper rifle over his back, gripped the rusty iron ladder beneath the water tower with both hands, and suddenly strained his muscles.
Thirty seconds later, Lu Ye climbed onto the work platform at the top of the water tower, the whole process happening silently.
He kicked the Ukrainian soldier's body, which he had blown up in the head, to a corner, quickly lay down behind a half-person-high concrete wall, and set up his sniper rifle.
With the combined effect of low-light and thermal imaging, Lu Ye was able to clearly see the entire Kalinovka marshalling yard.
"The water tower has been captured, and the view is good," Lu Ye reported in a low voice.
Yuri crouched in the bushes below and began issuing the assault orders.
"Proceed according to the original plan!"
"Roman, you're with me! Using the buildings as cover, sneak along the edge of the southern railway. Our target is the mortar and anti-tank missile launcher behind the eastern trench!"
"Artyom, Eugene, under Lu Ye's cover, you two head to the north side!"
"Ruslan, infiltrate the south side. Go to the area near those freight cars covered with infrared camouflage netting and establish a heavy fire support position in advance."
"clear!"
"Wait! Boss, something's wrong!"
On the water tower, Lu Ye's urgent voice rang out in the communication channel.
Yuri abruptly stopped himself in his tracks: "Lu! What's going on?"
Lu Ye spoke rapidly: "The intelligence is wrong! The outer defense lines on the north and east sides do indeed match what Vorov provided, but the enemy's internal patrol routes have completely changed!"
"If we proceed to the north factory as originally planned, we will inevitably pass an abandoned two-story building. In my thermal imaging view, there are at least two groups of twelve people patrolling around that building."
"And the south side too." Lu Ye slightly shifted the muzzle of his gun. "Near the freight cars on the south side, the patrols aren't just every fifteen minutes! They're now two groups patrolling seamlessly, with the gaps in between being at most thirty seconds!"
But it's not over yet.
Lu Ye's crosshair continued to move eastward, locking onto the area in front of the building between the dispatch building and the eastern trench.
Against the backdrop of thick fog, two very conspicuous humanoid heat sources were walking back and forth in the open space, seemingly carrying some heavy equipment.
"Boss, there's something amiss in the core area. There are two people outdoors in the open space in front of the drone warehouse. Judging from their actions of fiddling with equipment, they're setting up a drone launch platform!"
As if to confirm Lu Ye's speculation, a strange voice suddenly sounded in the team's tactical headset, on the channel that Eugene had just hijacked.
"Vampire One is ready. The system is performing a self-check. It can take off at any time to conduct fog reconnaissance!"
Upon hearing the word "vampire," the five people below instantly felt a chill run down their spines.
"Damn it! It's a large multi-rotor drone equipped with a military thermal imager!" Eugene's voice rang out in the channel.
"Once that thing takes off, we'll be five moving targets in the fog! Ghillie suits and infrared camouflage won't hide us at all under that kind of close-range scanning!"
Time is running out for the team.
Once the drones take off, all infiltration plans will become a joke.
"Tactical change! Abandon the north flank demolition plan!" A few seconds later, Yuri's voice rang out again, overturning the previous battle plan.
"Since we can't get through to the north, we won't go there! Everyone gather! Proceed eastward along the outer edge of the railway on the south side!"
"We'll advance as a group to where their drones take off, then split into two teams!"
Yuri quickly assigned new tasks: "Artyom! Eugene! Once you reach the split point, you two break away from the group and head directly towards the drone warehouse in the core area. Absolutely do not let the vampires take flight! At the same time, destroy the drone warehouse!"
"Roman and I will continue according to the original plan, circling around from the separation point to the rear of the eastern trenches to bomb the mortar and missile positions!"
"Ruslan, you're to infiltrate the southern freight car area alone. The patrol gap is only thirty seconds; this is your only chance to sneak in and establish a defensive position!"
"Did you understand?" Yuri demanded sharply.
"clear!"
"Land! If we are exposed, or the time bomb detonates, you must eliminate any machine gun positions that threaten Artyom and Eugene immediately! Their positions are the most dangerous!"
"Leave it to me." Lu Ye lightly placed his index finger on the trigger, and the crosshair had already locked onto the two blurry heat sources on the east side that were debugging drones.
"Check your watch. 2:15."
Yuri pulled the bolt back: "Move!"
