Chapter 468 The Child's Destiny
Chapter 468 The Child's Destiny
An Shiya jumped out when she saw my call. The name flashing on the phone screen made her heart tighten. Her fingertips hovered on the answer button for a moment before pressing the call button.
Before I could say anything, An Shiya said, "Wanting, I heard from Yuxuan that your child was born prematurely and had heavy bleeding due to difficult labor. It was so scary. How are you recovering now? Please wait a moment, I will be at the hospital soon.
"Shiya, it's not..." Before I finished speaking, a hurried busy tone came from the receiver. Fu Sihan walked in from outside the ward, looked at me and said, "What's wrong? Didn't you get through to An Shiya on the phone?
I started to say, "Before I could finish my words, she said she would be at the hospital soon, so we should wait for her to come and discuss the child with her. Before I could finish my words, she hung up the phone.
Fu Sihan frowned slightly and raised his hand to loosen his crooked tie. The milk stain on his suit cuffs was faintly visible under the incandescent light. He looked out the window at the gloomy sky, thunder rumbled in the distance, and rain began to slant across the glass. "Okay, let's talk about it when she gets here. But Lin Youyou hurt you before. Do you really want to help this child?"
I looked at the sleeping child in my arms, his pink little mouth occasionally moving unconsciously, his tiny fingers curled into fists. The unique scent of baby milk brought back memories like a tide. Lin Youyou's hurtful words, her fierce gaze, and the harm she had caused me by her unscrupulous means had all caused me unbearable pain.
"Sihan," I looked away, seeing the bloodshot and fatigue in his eyes. "The child is innocent." My voice was soft, but with unquestionable determination. "The mistakes made by Lin Youyou should not be borne by this innocent child."
Meanwhile, Lin Youyou, dressed in a nurse's uniform, could hear everything from outside. Her nails dug deep into her palms. She hadn't expected someone to repay her kindness with kindness. She felt a surge of guilt for all the hurt she'd caused her. Looking at the child sleeping peacefully in Mo Wanting's arms, she murmured silently, "I'm sorry..." into the crack of the door, tears hitting the ground, stirring up tiny clouds of dust.
But at this moment, she didn't even have the courage to say "I'm sorry." The hospital gown beneath her nurse's uniform was soaked with cold sweat, and the wound on her abdomen throbbed with pain from standing for so long—the scars left by heavy bleeding during childbirth, like the mark of fate, constantly reminding her of the mistakes she had made.
An Shiya's footsteps could be heard at the end of the corridor, mixed with the sound of water splashing under an umbrella. Lin Youyou hurriedly turned and hid in a secluded place. Why did An Shiya come here at this time? Was it because of the child?
"Wanting!" An Shiya's voice was breathless. The moment the ward door was pushed open, Lin Youyou heard Mo Wanting's low exclamation, "Shiya, I said I was going to call you, but you came instead."
"I'm worried about you," An Shiya's voice was nasal, and the water drops from the umbrella tip made a small sound when hitting the ground. "When Yuxuan told me that you had a premature birth and heavy bleeding, my heart was in my throat. We can say that we didn't know each other until we fought. If you hadn't brought Yuxuan and me together back then, how could we have this family now?" She walked to the bed in two steps, her eyes fell on the swaddling clothes in Mo Wanting's arms. "Let me see, is this your child? He looks so cute, not like a premature baby."
Mo Wanting's fingers paused at the edge of the swaddling clothes, and she looked up to meet Fu Sihan's gaze. He was leaning against the windowsill, his suit collar slightly open, his tie crooked at his collarbone, his eyes a deep, dark sullen hue. "Shiya," Mo Wanting said softly, "this child... is Lin Youyou's."
"I've discussed this with Sihan," Mo Wanting held her cold hand, gently pressing her fingertips against the baby's soft back. "Your mother and stepfather have always wanted a child, and Lin Youyou..." Her voice choked. "She left the child outside our ward and left us a note saying this was the best home she could think of for the child."
An Shiya's smile froze, her fingers hovering half an inch above the baby. The wind from the corridor blew into the ward, gently lifting the curtains and revealing Fu Sihan's tense jawline. "Lin Youyou's?" An Shiya's voice dropped. "So what we talked about on the phone earlier..."
When I heard this, I quickly spoke up, "This child is Lin Youyou's. Didn't I call you before? Your mother and your stepfather don't have any children, but your mother will never have another child with your stepfather in her lifetime. Have you told them about this?"
After hearing this, An Shiya said excitedly, "I called them, and they're very willing to raise this child. They've already decorated the nursery!" She took out her phone and flipped through the photos Gong Haotian had sent her - the pale blue walls were covered with stickers of stars and moons, Mo Wanting's favorite lily of the valley wind chimes hung on the crib rails, and the bay window was piled with plush toys. She said excitedly, "Mom was beaten by my biological father and she's never been able to have children in her life. So to make up for Mom and Uncle Gong's regret, I'll video chat with them later and let them see the baby."
An Shiya had already made a video call. On the screen, Wu Zhenzhen ran out of the kitchen wearing an apron, with flour on her chest. Behind her followed Gong Haotian, who was wearing a tie and holding a crooked paper airplane in his hand.
"Shiya, you haven't video chatted with your mother for a long time. I'm really happy that you can video chat with me!" Wu Zhenzhen's voice was filled with tears. When she saw the baby in the cradle, she wiped her glasses in a hurry. "Shiya, who is this child?"
An Shiya's fingers gently stroked the baby's face. As the camera zoomed in, the child unconsciously opened its mouth, its tender pink tongue grazing across its lower lip. Wu Zhenzhen's breath suddenly caught, her gaze fixed on the small mole at the base of the child's ring finger—an exact replica of the birthmark behind her right ear, a gentle mark of fate.
"Mom," An Shiya's voice was choked with sobs, "This child is Lin Youyou's. She sent the child to Wanting. Haven't you already prepared everything for the child? Why don't you bring the child home quickly and raise him/her together with Uncle Gong? But, Mom, will you regret it?"
"Regret?" Wu Zhenzhen suddenly laughed, but her tears fell on the phone screen, leaving a trail of water marks. "Shiya, what mommy regrets most in her life is that she didn't take you away when your biological father raised his fist." She turned around and opened the wardrobe behind her, and a whole wall of baby products came into view: on the left was a jumpsuit divided into 0-3 years old, with Gong Haotian's clumsy cartoon pattern embroidered on the collar.
Gong Haotian came over, his suit cuffs still stained with gold powder from when he was drawing the star map: "Your mother, I was secretly thinking about doing in vitro fertilization yesterday, but I knew your mother's body wouldn't allow it. I said that I only need one daughter, Shiya, and I didn't expect Shiya to prepare a surprise for us.
An Shiya burst into tears after hearing this. She pointed her phone at the baby and said, "Mom, look at this child. He's so adorable. And your body can't bear any more children. Take this child home and raise him well. It's all because of me that you lost that child and blocked your right to have children. I just want you to have no regrets now."
