Chapter 970 - 969
Chapter 970 - 969
Hao Rong sighed and said, "I have to find a way to contact my parents. It seems now that I might have a better chance of reaching them, but for you..."In fact, he wasn’t implying this. He always felt that Luo Yirui’s family had some foundation, but it definitely wasn’t better off than his own. However, after witnessing that scene earlier, such thoughts vanished.
Luo Yirui’s family must be more mysterious and complex than he had imagined.
"Did your father send you away to avoid danger?" Luo Yirui suddenly asked.
Hao Rong was silent. He had considered this possibility, but if it were truly to avoid danger, he would have heard something about it. And his family hadn’t offended anyone; on the contrary, due to matters concerning his aunt, they had made acquaintances with many powerful figures.
He subconsciously didn’t want to think about what might have happened. His only support was his family. Without it, he would no longer be a young master, the son of a wealthy family, he wouldn’t have money to buy high-end toys or frequent high-end places, and he wouldn’t have the qualification to meet equally beautiful young ladies.
So his family could not fall into trouble. He didn’t want to live a poor man’s life, struggling every day just for three meals a day; just thinking about such a life felt tedious and uninteresting.
Right!
Hao Rong suddenly remembered Yu Junpei. That gathering was full of powerful people, all of whom his father had to spend a fortune to invite. If he could bring one back...
Thinking of this, Hao Rong’s eyes lit up. Even if he couldn’t cure his aunt, bringing back a Mystic Doctor would elevate his status in the eyes of the family head! ... Moreover, he had another idea. If something really happened at home, bringing the Mystic Doctor back, with their identity and status, might actually help!
Hao Rong suddenly got excited. If it had been before, he wouldn’t have dared to think like this. But that Yu Junpei had just treated them to a meal, which counted as some friendship, and he was an easygoing old man. If he paid a bit more...
However, Hao Rong shook his head immediately. That group of people held themselves in such high regard that a direct offer of money might backfire. He scratched his chin, wondering how to get the old man to go with him.
As for Luo Yirui, despite his recent impressive display of power, Hao Rong subconsciously believed Luo Yirui was just five years old and couldn’t compare to Yu Junpei!
And with Luo Yirui as a contrast, the status of Yu Junpei and those old Mystic Doctors in his mind rose even higher, almost becoming mythic. If a five-year-old kid was this powerful, how powerful would those elders be who had lived for most of their lives?!
The three quietly returned to Ningjin County. After the recent events, Jing Changle and Hao Rong would subconsciously seek Luo Yirui’s opinion. Jing Changle already had great confidence in him; most things depended on Luo Yirui’s judgment. The two discussed everything together, which had gotten them this far.
As dusk approached, Hao Rong asked, "Where do we sleep tonight?"
He particularly wanted to stay in a hotel. Though he didn’t have any money, Jing Changle did. Spending a night in a hotel could allow them to shower and clean up, since they smelled awful.
But Jing Changle wouldn’t waste his money on him. If there were no other choice, he’d rather save the money for himself, knowing he couldn’t live off Luo Yirui’s family when he went there to learn.
But now there was no other option; he and Luo Yirui relied on this money for meals and to escape.
Luo Yirui thought for a moment and decided they should stay in the small storeroom they had used before. It was secluded and relatively safe.
The three returned to that small storeroom. The owner of the place still hadn’t returned; apparently, they had gone out on business and hadn’t been back for half a year.
Each one leaned against a wall. Luo Yirui closed his eyes, thinking about the day’s events. Hao Rong scratched here and there, feeling itchy all over and desperately wanting a bath. However, when he brought it up, he was mocked by the two kids for being delicate, so he hadn’t mentioned it again.
Jing Changle, meanwhile, was fiddling with his black bead as usual. The bead was dark but would reflect a little light at night, which was so dazzling and colorful it almost made one dizzy!
Tired from escaping during the day, Jing Changle had no time to play with it and only took it out at night. Each time, the radiance captured his attention.
Looking at the bead, Jing Changle suddenly recalled the scene when Luo Yirui had drawn talismans earlier. Although Luo Yirui was quick, surprisingly, he remembered each detail vividly as if everything had been slowed down.
This feeling was strange; it wasn’t his first time seeing Luo Yirui making talismans, but he’d never felt this way before.
Reflecting on those moments, his gaze fell on the black bead, and he suddenly gasped. Was the bead brighter than before?
Luo Yirui heard his voice and opened his eyes to look over. In the moonlight, he saw the surprise on his face and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Jing Changle held the black bead up, "Isn’t it brighter than before?"
Luo Yirui squinted in the moonlight to see that it was the black bead and immediately felt speechless. The bead showed no light whatsoever, but Jing Changle insisted it had some, and now even claimed it was brighter. To him, the dark bead seemed to get lost in the shadows; without the moonlight, it would be invisible.
Hao Rong also craned his neck for a look. Seeing it was just an unremarkable bead, he sneered, "Brother, not to put you down, but you really need to get glasses, or it will affect your studies. Where’s the brightness in that dreary thing? Are you kidding us?"
Jing Changle frowned at Luo Yirui, "You really can’t see it’s brighter?"
Luo Yirui looked at the bead again and saw that Jing Changle wasn’t lying. His heart skipped. He couldn’t see it, nor could Hao Rong, but Jing Changle seemed genuinely convinced it wasn’t an illusion...
Could it be that only Jing Changle could see the bead’s peculiarity?
It wasn’t impossible, as the bead had been left to him by his mother. But such a phenomenon was simply hard to believe.
Luo Yirui scratched his head, wishing his mother was there to tell whether it was the bead or Jing Changle that had the problem.
Jing Changle, seeing no one believed him—even Luo Yirui appeared doubtful—felt a bit irritated. He decided to put the bead away and went to sleep.
He didn’t see the bead roll slightly in his pocket afterward, with a flash of colorful light passing over it before returning to calm.
The night passed uneventfully. The next day, they once again encountered Yu Junpei, to Hao Rong’s great delight. It was like a pillow had been brought to a tired man!
Meeting Yu Junpei wasn’t by chance; Yu Junpei had come to find them!
